If you're looking for a thermal scope, I don't think you can do better in the price range than the AGM Rattler. It's quite intuitive to use and provides clear, easily-recognizable images in virtually all lighting conditions. I'm especially impressed with the hot-spot locator that puts a moving crosshair over the hottest point in the field of vision - very handy for identifying potential targets. Similarly, under what I would consider "average" use conditions, the setting that shows hot as white and cold as black, but paints over the hottest areas with red, makes target acquisition fast and easy, and a single button push to switch off the red-hot overlay lets you better identify the heat source. The only drawback I found is that, like many such devices, the Rattler eats batteries, and I neither wanted to have to swap batteries in the field nor discover when I want to use the device that the batteries are dead (that happened once, and once was too often). My solution is an $8 USB battery bank from Wal Mart (usually used to recharge or extend the life of cell phones) and created a 3D-printed a mount for it. The battery bank sits vertically along the right side of the Rattler (as you're looking through it) and connects to the power port on the Rattler's left side with an 8 inch USB cable. If you power it this way the instructions state to REMOVE the internal A123 batteries. While there are things that a QUALITY night-vision optic can do that a thermal imager cannot (view objects behind glass, for example), such NV devices are generally priced thousands of dollars higher, and those that aren't usually don't perform that well. For example, one "night vision" optic that I tried (other issues aside) provided "night vision" only when using an infrared illuminator... which to me is like saying that a scope paired with a flashlight is a "night vision" device. My big beef with relying on IR illuminators is that they make YOU a target (to other NV users). Incidentally, I should point out that the Rattler does NOT respond to such IR illuminators, only to actual HEAT sources. There are also thermal imagers costing thousands more than the Rattler, but I think AGM has done a marvelous job of providing what you need at an excellent price. I decided to forego the additional resolution and sensitivity of the higher priced models, and I'm not disappointed. I don't expect to be doing any long-range night hunting, and for the platform and expected range I bought it for (AR15 in .300 Blackout), it makes it easy to find the target under virtually any condition. Even in the Arizona sun there's usually enough temperature separation between the surroundings and warm-blooded beings to target them effectively. To give you an idea of the sensitivity of this device, it clearly shows the footprints where someone has walked across a floor barefoot for several minutes afterward. Buy it! works great so far. compares well to my other atn unit costing double and in some ways may be better. obviously the resolution could be better but that is the price point. I bought on a Prime day so got a smoking deal which I wasn't even in the market for since I already had a thermal. Thought it would make a nice lite hand held scanner, but I've now mounted it and will give it a try. It's nice and compact and light weight. I'm taking it pig hunting later and will update if it fails..... ... show more

Bluf: This sight is amazing, yes it it worth the money, the seller is not very professional and I would buy it from someone else. The scope is amazing however the seller is very unprofessional, I received what appears to be a return or used item. When you spend a grand on something id expect it to have all the plastic and all the parts where they belong in the case. Instead I got a scope that had been clearly opened in a box that was damaged and resealed with tape. If you are going to sell a returned item then you sell it as a return or used and take some money off of the order. Thats common practice. ... show more

    • Comparing the TS19-256 and the TS50-640
Pattern Name: RifleScope
I own both the TS19-256 and the TS50-640. Both are great thermal scopes, and the TS50-640 software is much better than on my TS19-256. They are not the same software/firmware at all. My TS19 will last all night on a single set of CR123A 3.7v batteries, the TS50-640 will not. The TS50-640 is very very battery hungry, even using sleep mode. I bring an extra set of rechargeable CR123A 3.7v batteries with me when hunting with it. Other people us an external battery pack, via the usb c port. The TS50-640 does not have the point of aim shift in zoom, but the TS19-256 does! This is a big issue but there is a work around. If you own the TS19, bench the gun and test this. Not sure if it is just the scope I received, or a model wide issue. Let me explain the firmware/software flaw with my TS19. On the TS19, if you zero in 2.5 magnification (example: x-3 y20), then zoom to 5x,15x, or 20x the reticle (digital crosshairs) reverts to x0 and y0 in magnification. Making magnification useless for shooting accurately, dangerously so. I hope they fix that issue in a firmware update, I use Picture in Picture on 2.5x magnification to get around that software flaw somewhat. I have tried zeroing the gun at 5x 15x and 20x but the xy values go wonky after saving. I am using the latest firmware. Something is wrong in AGM's reticle magnification math for the TS19. The ability to see heat signatures 1000+ yards is hands down amazing, compared to night vision IR. You own the night with thermal. I have had a lot of success getting wild boar with both thermal scopes. I am just able to recognize what an an animal is, much much further away, with the TS50-640. Both beat IR night vision hands down. No more guessing, is that an animal or not. No more giant IR illuminators and extra stuff. ... show more
