So far impressed with the product and price. Seems well made and am able to see critters in my garden 100 yards away. Light weight and good battery life.

  • Not bad for the money
Style: Handheld
I'll start by saying that I've had a career in high-end military-grade thermal imaging. I've been involved with the best of the best from F/A-18 targeting systems to Apache helicopter systems and our beloved LRAS3 system which can see a lit cigarette from 5 miles away. This is none of those, and I expected nothing more. I wanted something to be able to see coyotes, porcupines, skunks etc before I let my dog out at night and it fits the bill for cheap money. Typical low-end microbolometer stuff with a lot of dead pixels right out of the gate, but it works fine. Here's the thing: although the microbolometer is the same resolution as the similar FLIR Scout model, the lens at the front on the AGM is quite small and therefore doesn't let in as much IR light. This limits its sensitivity at longer ranges. If you only care about 50 yards or closer, this is fine. If you want to see more detail at 100-200 yards, then spend the extra $200 and get a FLIR Scout which has a much larger objective lens. Resolution will be the same, but you'll pick up IR signals from much farther away because the lens will be so much larger. The AGM is not just a toy by any stretch, but it's definitely limited. ... show more

  • Adequate for Short Range but Low Image Quality
Style: Handheld
The item was easy to use after reading the instructions. It charged in less than an hour out of the box. The grayscale pic above is without the digital zoom and shows a person 4' tall (dark black spot in center frame) at 100 yards away measured by my rangefinder. The colored pic is a different mode taken without digital zoom and shows a 6' tall person 65 yards away. In both modes it is easy to identify the presence of a heat signal as compared to surrounding terrain as well as heat signal movement; but there is very little definition beyond 50 yards and basically a heat signal blob at 100 yards. For the price of an entry level thermal imager this is an adequate device to detect the presence of a heat signal but not much more. Spending more money gets you much more definition in the picture. Overall I am happy with the purchase and it is what I expected. ... show more

  • Impressive for price, but quality of image changed
Style: Handheld
I bought this mainly for hunting pigs at night. I have various IR cameras and scopes and thought this would compliment what I already have. Most of my hunting takes place around 50 yards, so based on reviews it seemed perfect. When I received it, i was very impressed. At 50 yards and under it gave impressive detail for what this thing cost. It was surprisingly clear. Keep in mind, thermal is very expensive technology. For less than $400, it surpassed my expectations. However, just a few days later the quality of the image has drastically changed. It appears dark and muddy. Almost like a brown colored filter has been placed on it. Everything appears smudgy. Nothing is clear and overall very poor visibility. I have probably used the unit less than 10 minutes total. I can’t figure out what changed. I will most likely be returning it soon. Unsure if i will order another one. ... show more

  • great bang for your buck !
Style: Handheld
I did my research and absolutely do not regret purchase. the TM160 not only met, but exceeded my expectations. Here are my findings: owner's manual simple to read and easy to master the simple controls of this unit. The TM160 has a very clear picture, clearer than some more expensive units I've operated. The color options, zoom, menu buttons are easily accessible. I was able to scan an area target (house, car, large target) and clearly identify at 150+ yds. I was able to clearly scan a point target (person\animal) clearly i.d. at 50-75 yds. I was able to Identify deer at 150+ yds (see the spot on display and identify as deer based on movement) This is, in my opinion, an excellent and underrated entry level thermal scope that is well worth the money. ... show more

  • has never worked
Style: Handheld
My unit did not charge or turn on after being plugged in for to charge for a full day. It appears to have shipped with a defective battery and there is no provision for replacing the battery. Who wants the hassle of returning such an item and waiting for a replacement?

  • It works fine
Style: Handheld
There are some mystery parts of the manual, which you get online, but the parts that are easy to understand let you use the imager immediately. When setting it up, I was surprised to see that the corners of my living room are quite a bit hotter than the parts where I have 5.5 in of foam insulation. I found that It was easier to recognize what you are looking at if you do not use the color imaging. I can see and recognize anything alive that is bigger than a rat and is within 200 ft very easily, which is about as far as I am concerned with way out here in the sticks. Have no idea how it behaves in the city, but I am guessing it will do real well within the average yard when set up correctly. It definitely cannot see anything through a window but did fairly well through the screen. I am pleased with my purchase. ... show more
