    • solid wood? Not quite the solid sturdy investment your thinking of...
So I just set this up and am thinking it is OK at best. It is a cinch to set up. I can honestly say that my 3 year old son literally put it together himself with my guidance. I bought it because the reviews were awesome and I am an amazon fan and I do not like dealing with shopping in stores and horrid salespeople, wasted time and disappointment with purchases. Can't stand the brick and mortars. Anyway, I wanted a light that would be easy on the eyes as far as both light as well as beauty in the light itself. Everything in my apartment is there with a purpose and attraction that delights my son's and I's need. The lampshade does its purpose in that it really protects the eyes from coming in contact with a direct light bulb, even when you are underneath it. Overall, it's an OK lamp. It's not very expensive. However...I do ponder if there is a comparable, if not exact replica sold from one of those mass producing stores such as Bed bath and beyond for $30. It wouldn't surprise me because it kind of looks like a $30 lamp! It is made from cheap "solid wood." Do not let the "solid wood" fool you! Then we come to the cord----I will put a picture up of what it ACTUALLY looks like set up, because the cord is not in the finished photo. The cord dangles down from the middle, in the center on the top. This will go unnoticed by no one. It is a long thick cord that travels down the length of the lamp. So use your imagination to add this cord whilst looking at the picture so you can get a real idea of what it really looks like. I read that you can use a three way bulb, although it says explicitly--do not use a three way bulb. This isn't what I purchased it for so that feature doesn't bother me. I don't think I will be returning it only because I literally searched on Amazon an entire month finding one that I thought I would really like. If you are running on budget than this lamp will work fine. I would have rather purchased something that i would like to have the rest of my life. I will probably hold onto this until I find one that I am really in love, and for that it will work just fine. Another note: it is a weak lamp--read: not quite "solid wood." I can easily pick it up with one hand and throw it across the room. I am concerned that my son will press only a little weight of his on it and it will tumble down. ... show more

This lamp is aesthetically pleasing, highly recommend. More than once people have come over and complimented my choice of it and how it fits in a variety of backgrounds. It’s gentle lighting is all nice for reading and making a room feel homey. In my most recent move I lost the lamp shade and looking for a new one has been difficult but it’s definitely worth it. I look forward to getting many more years out of this lamp once I have it’s cover. I highly recommend, very satisfied with the product, easy to maintain, and useful (I really enjoy the shelves, they’re sturdy.) I highly recommend. ... show more

    • I lost the battle.. to my subconscious
I had originally purchased this item to put at both ends of my tv stand. The idea, although lovely, couldn’t meet a happy end. I first bought one as a tester then was going to get the other one after I assembled this but later feared it was going to be out of stock and hurried to buy the second one. Well.. the first one arrived. I immediately notice two of the shelves wood was chipped and had a few scratches. However, I thought I could let it pass and hide it. I started to build it. It was an easy assembly but I didn’t like how some of the sticks weren’t cut right and laid at a crooked angle even before sliding on the shelves. Even the screws laid crooked and some went down far too deep than others. I then realized that the sticks weren’t cut the same size and some had to stay loose to get the desired look. I, at first, didn’t want to go through the hassle of tearing down the finish product so I left it til my second one arrived. The second one was in a much better shape. However, I later noticed a few of the sticks had visible cracks on them. I like the style of these and wanted to keep them. Even to the point of taking parts from both packages to make one functioning one but I couldn’t do it. Unlike others, it did get to the point where I tore down both assemblied items in one night so I could return them. I don’t know how this worked for anyone else but this didn’t turn out to be a success story for me. For the price, it’s not worth it. For the most part, the style is great and the paint is nice and shiny. However, this is cheap material ready to break at a moments notice. I will not be buying this again. ... show more

I thought the construction of this would be flimsy considering their are alot of these lamps on the market and they openly state that it's made with MDF, however it is very sturdy and has weight to it. Mine sits on a hard wood floor and when tapped it doesn't wobble at all. I did find that one of the flat square shelves had a tiny dent on the corner, but it was easy enough to hide. In regards to arrival condition, i think i made out pretty good. Just know that if the box is destroyed upon arrival at your door then more than likely you will have to return it for another one (since mdf can get impact damaged pretty easily.) ... show more

    • A few flaws, otherwise great!
Looks fantastic in my room. I also used a Magic Light Pro lightbulb so i can change colors and turn it on/off and dim it among other things from my phone. Would 100% recommend that combo. Also, I got the all wood version. Even the "all wood" has a somewhat cheap feel in wood quality so I certainly wouldnt get the lesser materials. Looks great however, and is a good use of space. For the price, and considering this type of thing there dont seem many alternatives. Its a great product. I WISH.... the cord could hide inside a leg. They currently have you zip-tie it on the outside of a leg...which sucks. You MUST put it in a corner or it will look bad. Also, the cord should be made black!! Why have a black/dark shelf with a white cord! that you have to zip tie. Thats the main flaw of this product. ... show more

Other than it being a bit tedious to put together, this lamp is great! It compliments our decor nicely and gives off a nice light. The shelves are nice. It's heavy duty and very sturdy.
