i'm amazed at how much i've learned about microcontrollers, IOT, sensors, and python from this thing the lessons they have, the example programs, and the just the time adafruit has taken to make this approachable has even overcome my learning problems from recent significant brain damage from a medical accident.. plus it does all kinds of other neat stuff if you start combining things and grabbing bits of code from other sources and the adapting it when i'm not playing with it and trying out new code and ideas - it sits on my desk as my second roku remote in case i forget to grab the big one.. useful as well as fun and educational ... show more

    • Adafruit's best board yet?
I am so thrilled with my playground express. It is well supported by Adafruit, and It truly is amazing how many goodies are crammed into this little package. It has three different ways to program it. One is a super easy visual interface that young children can use. It is very similar to scratch. It is also compatible with the Arduino IDE so it can be used for many published user projects. The third way to program it is circuit python. It shows up as a flash drive, and you can just save or copy files to it.. Adafruit has a circuit python example for it to turn off TVs. Just copy the files to it , and it becomes a Adafruit TV-B-Gone Kit - Universal v1.2. No additional hardware needed, just a power source. Adafruit has put a lot of effort into designing this product and it shows. They provide so many examples and tutorials. They also have good forums and great tech support to help you if you get stuck. ... show more

    • Very versatile with lots of available memory
I've greatly enjoyed experimenting with this microcontroller. Before this one, I got a Gemma M0, but it only has 3 GPIO ports and a minimal amount of memory. After fighting with those limits, I bought the CPE and while it costs significantly more, the extra ports, more memory, 10 Neopixels, and a variety of sensors made it a much more useful device. The only thing that I miss from the Gemma M0 is the on/off switch. The only way to turn off this device is to unplug it. ... show more

    • An amazing platform for the seasoned programmer, or someone who wants to get their feet wet!
This is an amazing starter project! Whether you're a seasoned programmer or you just want an easy project this will amaze you. Everyone I showed this to said they couldn't program because it was "too hard", but after writing a program in seconds they all said they wanted one too! The onboard sensors save you hours of working with wires and breadboards, the online IDE lets you load your program anywhere without installing it, and it can run on a USB or some AA batteries.
