  • As I am new to this testing this made the new approach easy
Instructions are well laid out make this simple to use. Large screen so the results do not have to be a struggle to view. Testing strips are easily accessible on amazon. Complete bundle and seems to be accurate from my testing. Easy and quick way to get the results you need for monitoring.

  • No frills but seems accuarate
Basic model rated most accurate by a NIH comparison study of meter (+-5%). Dunno. The next A1c will tell the truth. No frills on this unit. Just basic glucose testing.

  • Nice machine
I got this as a back up to my other glucose monitor. I don’t regularly use this machine yet but have tested it’s accuracy and it is on point. Easy to use and seems to be of good quality.

  • Good meter - easy to use
This Contour NEXT GEN Glucose Monitor Kit is a nice blood glucose testing kit that includes everything you need to get started, including the meter itself, a box of 50 lancets with a nice quality spring-loaded lancing device, a box of 50 test strips, an easy to follow and comprehensive instruction manual, and a zippered nylon case to store the kit (except for the manual, which is too big to fit in the case) Some good things about this kit: > The meter has a nice large LCD display, so it's easy to see your readings and other information. > Not a whole lot of blood is needed to get a good reading. If your first poke doesn't draw enough blood, the meter will take what it's given and indicate on the display that it needs a bit more of a sample, so you can draw just a little more blood for it. That is a nice feature as some meters I've used in the past will simply fail if the sample is too small, wasting a test strip. > Besides the large display which shows your readings, there is a little LED indicator light at the point where the test strips are inserted that glows green, yellow, or red depending on the reading. The points at which the colors change are preset based on current standards for what constitutes a normal, low, borderline, or high readings, but can be reset to whatever numbers are applicable to your particular situation. > The meter automatically sets your food intake status (just ate, fasting, etc.) based on the time of day, but the status can be set manually as well for each reading. > The meter logs all your readings in its internal memory, including time and date stamps, and can be recalled at any time. Useful if you want to review your readings, or show them to your doctor. > I saw a reference in the manual to Bluetooth, so it looks like you can connect the meter to a smartphone, tablet, etc. presumably using an app, but I haven't yet tried out this functionality. > I like the lancing device that comes with this kit. It has an adjustable depth which is consistent from use to use, and when you cock the plunger a little red indicator is shown in the center of the trigger button, so you know that it's armed and ready to go. There were just one issue that I didn't like, not with the meter or any of the equipment itself, but rather regarding the test strips that were included in the package. The box from the test strips had a notation on it that they were for Medicare/Medicaid beneficiaries ONLY. Maybe it's legit, but seems strange that these were included for use by ANYONE that purchases the kit, regardless of whether or not they are eligible for Medicare/Medicaid. Other than that, the kit is great - no issues with any other aspect of it! Plus the test strips are reasonably priced and readily available wherever you normally get your test strips - including from Amazon itself. The lancets are standard ones that I've used with any lancing device I've ever used. ... show more

  • Goodby One-Touch...Hello, Contour Nxxt Gen
I have been a user of the One-Touch meters for at least fifteen years, most recently the One-Touch Vario. After using the Contour Next Gen for the last week, I'm switching. - Readings highly correlate with each other. I don't know which is more accurate, but they're close enough to each other that it doesn't matter. - Blood drop size is much smaller and an incompletely filled strip can be topped off. A partially filled one-touch strip must be discarded. - Readings are uploaded via bluetooth (and the Contour app) to my iPhone, feed into the Health App, and into the Tidepool system. Tidepool combines the meter readings with data from my Dexcom and T-Slim X2 insulin pump into a common analytical framework...try it if you haven't! - Test strips are readily available and less expensive than the One-Touch strips. The only downside (as far as I can see!) is that power is provided via a pair of non-rechargeable button cells. They're readily available, easily replaced, but I don't know how long they'll last and should be recycled when empty. Bottom line - If you're looking for a new meter, or just want to try something new, try this one. I recently evaluated a cheap Chinese meter and it was an inaccurate piece of junk. This guy is the polar opposite. It's really nice... ... show more

  • Good glucose reader
I needed a glucose reader per my doctor so I ordered this one. It is easy to use and the testing strips aren;t incredibly expensive to buy. I like that it keeps my prior readings saved so that I can compare. It only takes a single drop of blood so it isn't horrible to use. You can also buy the test strips just about anywhere but they are at the best price on Amazon. ... show more

  • Easy enough for a first timer to use
My doctor suggested I get a monitoring system to help determine possible non-diabetic hypoglycemia, so this whole set was entirely new to me. For better or worse, the instructions were a bit overwhelming to try to figure out while having a shaky episode, likely due to the various complexities associated with the logging capabilities of the system. In fact, my first time wanting to explore using this, I ended up giving up and putting it away. After that, I watched some basic general instructional videos that laid out the process fairly clearly (and in doing so, figured out that this device has the handy feature of turning on when a test strip is inserted). After that more basic orientation, I skipped the overwhelming instructions and stuck a test strip in, then proceeded to figure out the lancing part of everything. Unfortunately, I also have a severe dislike of needles, but having learned the less nerve-ending-riddled locations to lance from the video, I managed to successfully perform my first draw and test. The reading showed up pretty quickly. So while I can't really do a full review from an experienced user's perspective, and I'm only using the bare minimum of features, as a first time user, despite the overly complex looking instructions, the basics were easy enough to get through and seemed to perform well and be user friendly enough. ... show more
