  • Worked fine, when it worked (Returned)
CPU: i9-12900H / RTX3080 Ti Style: Bag Bundle
I got the i9-12900H / 3080TI version with the bag (in case the listing changes) Beautiful display, the single game I installed on it (Destiny 2) played great, but besides the issue where it would instantly shut off for no reason, there were some things I didn't like about it. The charging port is in the middle of the left hand side, with a 90 degree angle plug, meaning the cable either blocks your usb ports, or one of the fan exhausts (not a huge issue though, most air flow is through the back). The keyboard gets fairly hot on the right side, so I manually upped the fan speed instead of letting the predator software handle it. It wouldn't get overly hot during gaming because the "Turbo" mode would ramp up the fan speeds, but because the fans are all towards the back it stays pretty warm (though it's a laptop, it's expected to be really warm) I didn't like it switching between intel and nvidia graphics for display output, it would resize my windows and make the text small until I moved the windows again. Nice power saving feature but more of an annoyance to me. The main reason I returned it was due to the laptop shutting off, sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after several hours. I don't believe it shut off at all while I was playing Destiny 2, though I only tried it a few short times, so I may have just been lucky. I tried rolling back drivers and entirely resetting windows, but I wasn't willing to try anything else (like updating bios or re-seating ram) and it's probably a hardware issue anyways, so support told me to just return it. ... show more

  • Absolute beast of a unit. Hotter than the sun.
CPU: i9-12900H / RTX3080 Ti Style: Bag Bundle
Unsurprisingly everything about this laptop is killer fast. It’s surprisingly light given its hardware. I would strongly advise keeping this laptop is an elevated position though this thing gets H O T! Laptop cooling just isn’t up for the task. I couldn’t imagine tying to use the “turbo boost” button the laptop comes with. ... show more

  • Nice laptop, with the worst speakers I've heard in over a decade
CPU: i9-12900H / RTX3080 Ti Style: Bag Bundle
This laptop has plenty of pros... Modern 12th Gen Intel CPU, NVidia 3080Ti (laptop version), plenty of RAM. They were a bit stingy on the SSD but 1TB will get you by for a while. The screen is a nice improvement over the laptop it's replacing (close to years old). I was pleasantly surprised the only bloatware of significance was Norton, which I immediately got rid of - nobody needs that garbage. However, it has one major drawback and one minor annoyance. The touchpad is annoying and easy to palm - could have sworn this problem was fixed 10 years ago but it's not on this laptop (not by default at least). The bigger issue though.... the sound is awful. Not just your typical bad laptop speakers, but almost like they're blown bad. Better get ready to use headphones or separate speakers because you're not going to want to listen to these clearly overlooked speakers that are built in. DTS/X... lol... whatever that means... it definitely doesn't mean good quality built-in speakers that's for sure. ... show more

  • UPDATED!!! Sending back for repair after a week
CPU: i9-12900H / RTX3080 Ti Style: Bag Bundle
I received the laptop back after a two week turnaround, from the time I dropped it off with FedEx to when I got it back two days ago. According to the repair order, they had to replace the entire main board, probably due to the NVIDIA GPU being faulty. The machine is working flawlessly (hope I'm not jinxing myself) so I will give it 4 stars, knocking 1 off because of Acer's poor initial QC and the relative hassle of being without my computer for two weeks. Original review: I will update this review depending on how the repair process goes. I ordered the laptop on Prime Day and received it a few days later. I spent about a week getting it all set up. Launched a game and the frame rate was like a PowerPoint presentation. Weird... I looked in the Device Manager and the NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti (a VERY expensive component of this very expensive laptop) wasn't working. After troubleshooting with no luck, I contacted Acer support via their chat feature. After telling the CS rep what steps I'd taken, they told me to send it back for repair. Hopefully I'll get it back in 10-15 days. So, for now - Acer gets 1 star from me. Whether that changes and how much will depend on them. ... show more

  • Great gaming laptop, awful battery life
CPU: i7-10750H / RTX2070 Style: Notebook Only
This is an excellent gaming laptop. It is thin, light, the screen is gorgeous, and the chassis looks fantastic. However being thin and light the thermals are always going to be terrible. If you use the discrete GPU this laptop will heat up to around 90 degrees for the CPU and GPU quickly doing even basic tasks such as web browsing, reading emails, or youtube. You will not be sitting with this on your lap at these temps it is painfully hot. This Triton ships with "discrete GPU always on" in the PredatorSense menu. Turn that off and it will only use the discrete GPU when needed (for gaming). This allows this laptop to maintain a much more comfortable 35 - 40 degree temp for everyday tasks and remains very quiet with low fan speeds at these lower temps. Also be aware because the thermals are so bad when you do use the discrete GPU for gaming the fans spin fast and they are LOUD. Not an issue if you are using headphones otherwise it sounds like you are riding in a small jet. The heat also travels up through the keyboard. Not painfully hot but definitely warm. The battery lasts around 4 hours with "discrete GPU always on" turned off for everyday tasks. When turned on you will be lucky to get 2 hours. Overall I really like this laptop but just know going in with any thin and light gaming laptop your thermals are going to suffer which means a lot of heat quickly with loud fans when using the discrete GPU. We also use it with Oculus Quest 2 and the link cable which this laptop is more than powerful enough to handle, and thankfully has the correct USB-C port to connect. Being away from the laptop when using VR and not having to use the keyboard the hot temps are no issue whatsoever. Having the option to turn off the discrete GPU to keep temps down for basic tasks is very welcome and makes this laptop usable when travelling. You do have the option of using better thermal paste and undervolting but this will only bring temps down marginally and the fans are still going to be loud. ... show more
