It comes packaged great and is very sturdy. There is not holes for screws on the side. In my home I don’t have any studs above or below the opening and so I screwed through the side and it worked great.

This review is for the 12 inch x 12 inch Metal Access Panel. This is a good looking high quality access door made of aluminum. This type of access panel saves so much money and time on sheetrock repairs. We were able to cut a hole in the sheetrock, do the wiring upgrades, then install the access door to cover our mess. The access door has a locking slot you open with a screwdriver then it swings open. There is a little spring that can be compressed and the door can be removed from the frame. The installed panel measures 13.5 inch X 13.5 inch the hole cutout is 11.5 inch x 11.5 inch. We used adhesive caulk to glue the access panel to the sheetrock wall. A little bit of painters tape held it level until the adhesive caulk was dry. A bonus feature is that it is paintable to match the walls. Ours was in a closet but you could easily hide it with wall art if it was installed on a main wall. A very good product that makes any future repairs or upgrades easy to access. ... show more

Very nice looking door. Usually this kind of product gets a lot of its stability from the installation. The frame is so thin that installing will take more time than it's worth. No predrilled hole......that's okay but the metal is so thin that I know that it will warp when I sen the screws home. There is no lip on the frame, so there is no seal (see the light between frame and door). The door racks under its own weight. The screw latch isn't going to frustrate curious hands. The hinge type is handy but lightweight. An access panel should be strong enough to support itself and survive multiple openings. It's nice but mostly, it's just too thin to be useful. I bought it as a cover/access for electrical work. With kids around, I need a panel that is harder tro pry open. ... show more

On one level, the quality of the materials is great. The metal is sturdy, the painted finish is lovely, and the design for installation is easy enough. However, there is no easy way to open it...not a good design. And the bigger problem is the floppy door once it is opened. I would not recommend this access panel. ... show more

This is a good access panel. I'm going to use it for the install of a new shower control valve. It will provide apeasy access to the rear of the valve in case something goes wrong or starts leaking. The sheet metal is a little on the thin side for my personal tastes. The door is removable to give you more worki g room and the whole assembly is paintable. ... show more

Somehow I just didn’t realize how nice the fit, finish, and décor would be on this panel, since I’m just used to most access panels being pretty basic and boring. The outside has a great three-dimensional border, the access ‘knob’ is very small as to be nearly unnoticeable, the door is spring loaded so it can be easily removed if necessary, and the whole thing is aluminum, which means it’s stronger than plastic but still light. This panel was tested in a closet, but I’d personally have no qualms about installing it on an exposed hallway or room wall.
