New Dell laptop has Ethernet jack with spring loaded bottom. Ethernet cable plugged into it would lose connection intermittently because of the cable bending toward the rear of the laptop. This adapter provides a 90deg connector that eliminates the bend in the cable. I've been using this adapter for a couple of weeks and I have not seen the intermittent Ethernet connection issue. It's not optimal to have a two part Ethernet cable between computer and switch, but it seems to be working and not causing any issues like shifting Ethernet link speed from 1Gbps to 100Mbps.
