AMAZON VINE REVIEW of this SPSWHD HDMI KVM 2 x 1 Switch Having a KVM (Keyboard, Video, and Mouse) switch wired into your system allows you to use two (or more) computers with ONE monitor and ONE keyboard and mouse combo. It saves desk space, allows for instant switching between computers and allows you to “mix and match” operating systems as needed. This excellent all-metal switch is wired for TWO computers to share one monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I evaluated this switch by wiring it into my existing FOUR computer KVM that we use to manage the photo studio, Photoshop editing, and archiving of film and digital images. (See attached pictures) It was a simple process to take two computers from our KVM and wire up the 2x1 switch. This HDMI KVM switch includes an AC-POWER SUPPLY, two USB 3.0 cables, and an additional WIRED button that plugs into the front of the switch and allows you to select Computer 1 or Computer 2. You will find the wired switch with its FORTY inches of cable especially useful as you no longer have to reach for the button ON the actual switch that is buried SOMEWHERE on or under your desk. Having the AC power supply assures you that ALL SIX USB 3.0 ports have sufficient power for the devices you install in them. And remember to place the DONGLE from your WIRELESS Keyboard and Mouse in one of the NUMBERED (1-2-3-4) USB ports on the front of the switch to have total wireless control over both machines. The switch is rated for 8K@60HZ or 4K@120 HZ. That is HDMI 2.1 or ULTRA HD. You can use the newest, biggest, and brightest monitors and share them between two computers. This is fast HDMI 2.1 output so no lagging on video acquisition when you switch between computers. In addition, the USB 3.0 throughput is FIVE Gigabytes Per Second (5 Gbps) assuring fast data speeds through the switch from all SIX USB ports. This is a fast, efficient, compact, and well-made HDMI KVM. It performed flawlessly throughout my testing. (Full Disclosure: My original plan was 96 hours of runtime on the switch with random switching between the two test computers. The actual time wired in my system was 84 hours. I ended the planned test early to do a critical archive backup as NIKON Image Space, one of our storage providers, was going to go down for maintenance.) The switch, and the switch buttons got a serious workout as we do our Photoshop editing on one computer and have our scratch file and Layers files on another. We switch a LOT when editing photos! There are many advantages to using a scaled-up KVM with HDMI output. The ability to use ONE big presentation monitor with multiple computers saves money, desk space, electricity, and allows YOU to sit comfortably in one place and work on MANY projects with your favorite desktop implements.     • Wiring gets messy, but it works
The box itself is metal, pretty light and doesn't have any protective pads. Cables connected to it will are rigid, so unless your setup is set in stone and you don't move anything on the desk (like the picture on the product page suggests) it will work, however, in reality, it will inevitably move around and most likely scratch your desk. It would be nice if the box had soft non-slip pads and protected corners. Other than that, works as expected. ... show more
