I saw many others use this product to create a DiY Kaotica Eyeball clone. While it may not meet the exact specs of a $200 product, $20 makes it easy to decide of purchasing the real deal is worth $200. Here is what I've discovered. The product as listed for it's purpose is truly accurate. It is sturdy, resilient and doesn't show dirt easily. For my purpose, it was exactly what I was hoping. I was able to cut into it easily with a sharp knife and shape it to some very detailed specs. As a clone of the Kaoitica Eyeball, I can only assume that it roughly fits the acoustic parameters enough to judge a comparison. While not as exact and pretty as the Eyeball, the 'clone' showed me that it did a good job in isolating the mic. It works best in an area that is somewhat untreated to tell the difference. There is an issue with some frequencies being dropped out. They are the high end of the lower frequencies or the lower end of the Mid frequencies. This is easily remedied with a little EQ. It must be pretty popular for this usage or as the purpose for which it was originally intended because they are currently out of stock and don't know when they will be getting more. ... show more

    • I Purchased This Ball To Create...
A very cheap version of a Kaotica Eyeball. These, and similar devices, cost a lot of money! So the seemingly high price for this foam ball pales in comparison! I cut a four inch hole in it about 2/3 deep. I then cut a hole a bit smaller than my dynamic microphone in center of the bottom of the four inch hole. I cut the hole for the microphone all the way through. I slide my microphone in until it stopped. I found it works really well! No extensive and intensive room treatment that would have cost almost as much as the Kaotica Eyeball. All-in-all, this has worked out far better than I had hopes for. My recordings are extremely quiet and without room reflections! I do use, and have used, voice technique which, originally, did limit but, did not remove room reflection. So, voice technique combined with this ball have provided a better than expected result! ... show more

Bought this for a DIY microphone isolation ‘booth’. I’m happy to say that the foam is a nice high density. Much firmer than the foam wind screens of most microphones. And much firmer than the cheap foam sound isolation panels elsewhere on Amazon.

    • Easy, “Inexpensive” DIY for all levels.
I came across a video on YouTube about creating my own DIY eyeball to use for my mic. He provided a link & I was directed to this product. I record in a tiny space and nowhere my room is acoustically treated. Sounds horrible when I playback my recordings (vocals mainly) & EQing is a struggle lol. If right now, you’re not looking to spend $200, this here is easy & liking to your budget. Honestly, I wouldn’t waste time spending $200 anyway. They both have the same purpose! Using it as a mic filter and I was actually going to pay $198 for a Kaotica Eyeball but they wanted $25 more to ship a foam ball 5 day ground which I thought was ridiculous. I bought this and cored it out and stuck it on my mic. Looks decent and seems to work great. It only took about 10 minutes to modify it. ... show more

I used this to make a microphone isolation chamber. It was extremely useful for the purpose I bought it for. It required a bit of work to make the mic sit properly within it but it works great.
