    • Soft, Cushiony Padding Protects Your Items But is Hard to Cut Cleanly

The very properties that make this item able to protect your fragile items is what makes it hard to cut cleanly--even with a brand new snap-off blade knife followed up by scissors. This foam is much softer than the padding found in Haliburton cases a generation ago. I tried the old trick of putting the foam in the freezer to make it easier to cut and that was totally ineffective. If you aren't particular about clean cuts this will still do the job for which it was designed. I don't have access to a laser cutter which might work. The only way you can mark your cuts (short of tracing items as shown in the video) is to use sewing pins. I couldn't get any kind of white pencil or chalk (including tailor's chalk) to mark it. I tested this out to see if it could be used as a foam base for needle felting and I think it could although the tool sinks to the table surface. I think I'd place it under whatever foam or felt piece designed to use for that craft for extra protection for the tool and your tabletop. ... show more

I'm going to start my review with a critical piece of information......put the foam in the dryer when you get it (read more later in my review).... I had a Makita tool case from a drill - I didn't want to throw it away, so was trying to think how I could reuse it. Then I had the idea of using it as a battery case to store my extra batteries and allow me to take them with me on the go. I went through a bunch of different design ideas (probably way over-engineered), and then came up with the idea of foam. I found this 6 pack of foam and it was just a tad bit bigger than my case. I actually have a hot wire foam cutter, so I made my marks, cut the foam (just a tab bit bigger than needed), and it fit perfectly in place! The best thing about this foam is I just need a piece on the top and bottom of my case and the foam does the rest. It squeezes the batteries in place. I tried shaking the case, and the batteries don't move. Whether there are 10 or 1 battery - they stay in place. This foam made this project super easy! Here is my big tip - when you get the foam it's vacuum sealed. And when you cut open the package, you might be disappointed that it's all squished. Even if you let it sit out, it might not full rebound. I put the foam in the dryer - low heat for 15 minutes - they came out PERFECT! Exact size. So please - before you get frustrated on them being squished - 15 mins in the dryer will fix it. All in all this foam saved my project - it was easy to cut, it has a nice density to it. This foam is decent. Each sheet is a good size and thickness. It is a little difficult to get a clean cut edge on it but I don't mind that. I also wish it was a little firmer, but it still will add a nice protective layer on what you use it for.

    • Great to Use Inside Case for Camera Lenses

I picked these up because I needed something a little more solid to put in my camera lens case. The pull apart foam is great but I needed something that was a bit more stable and durable. This did the trick. It was easy to cut and easy to use. It's not overly dense but it's not too thin either. It would also work if you needed to put something on the wall to dampen the noise. Works great and if I ever need anymore foam I will pick some of this up. ... show more
