This was good stuff! It smelled fresh when I to get out of the package. It was very tightly packed in there to the point that maybe 1/8 of the package filled up about a gallon size Ziploc bag when wet. I wasn't exactly sure the best way to handle it, so I ripped apart the pieces and then used my hands to separate them as much as possible before adding water because they were so tightly packed in there that I wanted to make sure I was getting the most out of them. I was needing moss for my boa who need higher humidity and bought this. The moss looks right and serves it's purpose, no dead arthropods, thorns or sticks in it at all, however one side of the brick had white specks of mold that I discarded immediately. I didn't have much choice but to use the unsoiled parts for my animals as I had used my spare money on this and already waited a while for this and a day I could clean everything without interruption. Poured near boiling water on the moss to kill any spores and it ended up good and serves it's purpose, the moss smelled weird compared to other brands I have used before. ... show more

As much as my isopods loved it it molded my tanks. I had to do a tank change then without thinking it's the moss,,, I put it back in. It was only after the SECOND time it molded JUST the moss I realized. I also believe it has some little friends in there (some type of worm) as I found a dead isopod with worms on it. ... show more

This seems like quality moss. It was packaged well and you get a ton of it. It tore and hydrated easy and doesnt seem to contain any twigs or junk like other brands do, just nice, long strands of moss. I'm currently using it as part of a substrate mix for my isopods, so we'll see how it does

This is excellent quality sphagnum moss which works great for my houseplant propagations. The moss comes in a compressed cube and does require some effort to pull the moss apart and then rehydrate, however, this is a wonderful quality moss that really retains moisture and provides and excellent inert substrate for propagating plants. Even though the compressed cube of moss is pretty small, the moss expands when pulled apart and fluffed up and rehydrated, this moss has lasted me for a couple of months and I have been preparing a lot of propagations of outdoor plants.
