Description

Determining the best way to pose a subject—a way that is simultaneously flattering, appropriate, and visually appealing—can be one of the biggest challenges in designing a successful portrait. This is especially true when creating portraits of brides, where the photographer may be called on to create anything from a very traditional head-and-shoulders pose to a more adventurous full-length look straight out of the pages of a fashion magazine. Quite simply, the variations are almost limitless—as is the pressure to perform flawlessly throughout this once-in-a-lifetime event. This collection is a visual sourcebook designed to address exactly that problem. Filled with images by some of the world’s most accomplished wedding photographers, it provides a resource for professionals seeking inspiration for their own work. Stuck on what to do with a particular bride or unsure how to make use of a location? Flip through the sample portraits, pick something you like, then adapt it as needed to suit your tastes. Looking to spice up your work with some new poses? Find a sample that appeals to you and look for ways to implement it (or some element of it) with one of your brides. It can be difficult to remain creative day after day, year after year, but sometimes all you need to break through a slump is a little spark. In this book, you’ll find a plethora of images designed to provide just that. Read more

  • An excellent source book, rich in varied styles and ideas
I am a long-time photographer (40+ years) preparing to shoot my daughter's wedding. I purchased this book to give me setting, posing, and style ideas. I have found it to be excellent. The well-laid out pages offer a nearly endless supply of perfect and near-perfect shots with terse tips and a few observations. I've found it perfect for thumbing through evenings to fill my mind with creative concepts. My wife and I have spent considerable time discussing concepts and execution. I (almost) never buy print books anymore; but this one I'm very happy to own. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • i expected more
THE BOOK WAS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. I THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BETTER, MORE MODERN POSES. A LITTLE OLD FASHIONED BUT IT WILL GET YOUR OWN CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING OF WHAT COULD OF BEEN DONE DIFFERENTLY IN EACH POSE. A LOT OF THE POSES WERE REPEATED BUT WITH DIFFERENT MODELS. IT GAVE HELPFUL INFORMATION AS FAR AS THE ART OF POSING. WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS TO SOMEONE..IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR MODERN, NO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO YOU. ... show more

  • This makes me ALMOST want to get married again
Just so I can pose for some of the shots I've seen in this book. Like the other titles in this series, it's chalked full of brides in all sorts of dresses in all sorts of environments, in all sorts of poses. I can't wait to shoot my next bride actually and wish the wedding I've already done were more traditional so I could have shot my bride/daughter in a variety of poses picked and pieced from images in this book. I may actually employ some of the concepts in a few of the engagement sessions I have coming up. ... show more

  • Useful for more than brides
A fantastic book for posing brides and this book is very useful for posing women/girls in general as I had hoped. The photos are grouped into like categories and I find that very helpful. This book has not made it to my bookshelf yet because it stays out on my desk for reference and ideas. If you need a little help with posing ideas, go ahead and get this book, you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Can't recommend this book
This book is a sourcebook for digital wedding photographers, which means that it does not cover howto, guides etc. It just show you portrait photos from top wedding photographers that work with Amherst Media. Some of them are book author. The book consists of mainly photos which are grouped according the the theme: Close up, getting ready, standing, sitting, creative and so on. Ocassionally, there will be a quote of tips from photographer on posing. In the appendix section, it has some tips for posing. Wedding photographers who want to look for inspiration might be benefited from this book if they observe carefully about the posing and lighting. However, it is unfortunate that there are no caption or description on each photos to explain the pose. Readers are forced to learn by themselves. In the end, reading this book is kinda similar to viewing wedding photos online. I can't recommend this book. If you are looking for book that explain about posing, I will rather recommend Doug Box's Guide to Posing for Portrait Photographers. Read more photography books review at my blog. You can get the address on my profile page. Thanks for reading. ... show more

  • Helps me to make sure that the bride gets the shots that she really wants
Although I photographed several hundred weddings when I was much younger I now only do a wedding if it is for a relative or someone affiliated with an important client. Given how infrequently I do wedding work I really want to make sure that I am giving the couple what they expect. I gift this book, and a few others, to the bride and ask ask her to look through it and let me know if she sees any poses that she really wants. So far it has been helpful to uncover what style of wedding photography she is attracted to. That however should not be confused with losing control of the job, it's just that I like to know their expectations and to make sure that we are on the same page. One thing thing that I should point out is that, in my opinion, there are not really 500 different poses in this book. Just having the bride shift her eyes from one pose to another does not constitute a different pose, just a variation of the previous one. Also, the photographs are taken by several different photographers so there is inherently going to be even more duplication than if it was shot by one person. My gut feeling is that there are less than 200 original, unique poses. Still, I find this book to be helpful when used in conjunction with several others. ... show more

  • The poses are wonderful. The shots are not for the novice though.
The poses are excellent. However, a quick inspection reveals that nearly all of the photos require extensive use of off-camera flash to create the shadows and capture the moment. I'm becoming a strobist and hopefully will be a fast student on these techniques if I have any hope of duplicating these poses. I didn't even have a clue what a strobist was until a few weeks ago. ... show more

  • A canned quick gather of wedding model shoots
Some photos are clearly of models at a meetup group type shoot, unless the bride, groom, or relatives were able to afford multiple professional photogs which is highly unlikely. Or, perhaps the editor of this placed the wrong photog names on some shots. Clearly, the same bride appears to have had different shots by different photogs. The brides appear, in some cases, to be models anyway. The photos contacts Ned herein do not appear, on my device anyway, to be HD, so they don't look very good. That's the whole point of getting such a resource - to review the image. Either that or the photography quality was poor. That's the case in some photos anyway, which appear to be: Poor overall quality in composition, resolution, etc. Too editorial for the typical bride And, some photos are clearly photoshopped with various effects, which goes against the point of view f this resource. This seemed to be a resource for posing, not PS techniques of dispersion or blurring effects of brides dress trains, etc. Text lesson offered is minimal and anecdotal. I would skip this and just internet image search for posing ideas. ... show more
