I used to buy unpainted N scale figures from a European company that came on sprues. Not bad per say, but can get expensive. You can always go the painted route and that is VERY expensive, especially when trying to populate a a large layout (mine is on a large folding table, not the greatest, but I have a family I am still raising). I found these unpainted figures to be of good value. 50 pieces for 6 bucks, isn't going to break the bank. Plus you can experiment on them. I turned one person into a wino behind an alley. I got a few and cut the back of their legs just right, then glued them underneath in a sitting position with a bead of cyanoacrylate glue. Then I sanded them in a knee curved fashion and now have sitting people in a bench. To paint these it is best to use minimal white glue or cyanoacrylate glue under the shoes, to a flat toothpick, and then tape or use poster putty to a larger surface like a tonsil stick. You could just directly glue them to the tonsil stick, but when removing them you don't have leverage. Make sure to space each figure about a 1/2 an inch from each person. Anyways, then base coat like a grey, I prefer to airbrush, but you can easily thin paint and brush on, and then use a flesh tone, and then do blue / brown pants, pink / red dresses, etc.. Again, I prefer primer and base coat with airbrush, then I load up a movie and do the details and it goes really quick. Tip: I usually do a beige like flesh tone, and to add variations I use different washes to change flesh tones. For darker tones, I just simple pick a handful and change the color directly. With diversity it looks much more real. These required minimal cleanup, but there was cleanup, and they look great in a diorama or N scale layout. ... show more
