  • 7 year old needs lots of help!

Great product. My son had to build a robot for school. This worked great but a seven year old will need lots of help.

  • My 9-year-old boy did not have the physical strength or dexterity to put this together
Style: Table Top Robot
It is a purely mechanical robot. There are no sensors of any kind - just a roller-wheel that is activated when the robot moves partially off the table, causing it to turn. The antenna is purely for effect. The manufacturer recommends taking the battery out when not in use (does not come with the battery!), but that is a major hassle, requiring some tough unscrewing and screwing. My strong 9-and-half-year-old boy could not screw this together. Nor did he have the dexterity to get the other parts in place. I had to mount it for him. Moreover, the visual layout of the mounting instructions is terrible and confusing. Very poorly designed mounting instructions. For instance, the graphic for the first steps is located in a very unexpected place, causing me to miss the steps and have to start all over once I thought I had finished. Other than that, it is a very simple object, pleasant to watch but not much better than wind-up toy and with very minor educational impact, I suspect. ... show more

  • Good idea, short-lived fun
Style: Table Top Robot
I got this for an extra Christmas gift for my 8 yr old grandson. It took him all of 3 minutes to assemble it. Then another 5 minutes checking it out and done. It wasn’t challenging at all. The idea is a good one, just not worth it for a bright child.

  • You get what you (don't) pay for...
Style: Table Top Robot
I should have known by how cheap it was. Assembly required is not conducive to kids: threads aren't tapped so provide your own jeweler's screwdriver to use a ton of force to screw together. Mineral oil (instead of grease) on the cheap plastic gears is messy. Connecting the wires and putting on the legs also takes a lot of force. The legs move as one piece and hidden wheels underneath only drive it to the left. When it finds a cliff (edge of a table), it then turns 90 degrees and keeps driving left forever. So it gets stuck against (non-cliff) obstacles on the floor. The top is just cheap thermoformed plastic, that looks like a piece of the packaging to throw away. The antenna is difficult to align. It doesn't even come with the AA battery that requires the screwdriver to replace. It's like someone came up with a neat idea for a toy, then forced the engineers to cut the cost until just the shape of something cool was left. So your kid may like it if you do most of the work, but it won't entertain them as long as it looks like it should. ... show more
