  • Great little inverter
Color: Red
So far this inverter has served its purpose. It was about a 2ft cord with a cigarette lighter plug. For my purposes, it was too short to use in my work van and have the inverter out of the way. Having electrical knowledge, I cut the plug end off, extended the wires with appropriate gauge, and put in an inline fuse for added protection. I have it powering a standard 110v power strip, which in turns powers all my battery charges for my power tools. I don't think it arrant taking a Star away, but one thing I'd like to see this have is a way to mount it. I just secured it to my van partition wall with zip ties. Works just fine. so 5 stars still So far, not much heat from the unit, no issues, and we'll see how it handles my needs. Will update review if there's any issues. ... show more

  • Tested at 360 watts output, 107 VAC
I ordered the "FSATBTNE 400W Power Inverter" because it is a small 5*3*1.75 inch unit that promises 400 Watts of continuous power output, which I initially suspected might not be accurate. I received it in a small cardboard box, which includes just the inverter with a permanently-attached input cable that ends in a cigarette-lighter male plug, and a thin poorly-translated manual. My expectations sank pretty low. The manual hints that the AC output of this unit will rise "slowly" when a load is applied. I found that upon connecting it to a 12 VDC car battery and turning it on, the unit produces a mere 92 VAC. Seemed strange, but I took on faith it is a power-saving design. First test, whether it is alive: a pedestal fan that uses 90 W. It spun up, but the inverter's output hovered between 98 and 100 VAC. The fan seemed to spin a bit slower than usual, but it worked. Second test, inadvertent torture: a desktop computer with a small 500 W power supply. I expected this machine to boot with less than 400 W draw, but I guess it was going beyond that limit. The PC started booting, but the inverter's LED blinked back and forth between green and red, signifying a transient overload condition. Not wanting to risk the inverter further, I stopped this test, having verified that the overload protection in this device really works. Third test, continuous power load: the Sony Playstation 3 (first generation "phat" model) uses 120 VAC at 3 A, so it draws 360 W. This was the closest I could approach the 400 W limit, and I was able to use it for 25 minutes non-stop. (My car battery is old and I stopped the test to avoid deep cycling it.) I noticed though that the inverter was outputting 107 VAC throughout this test; a bit low but most electronics should be able to tolerate. In conclusion, I have good reason to believe this little inverter can really deliver 400 W of continuous output, and its self-protection mechanisms really work. Five stars, no doubts from me! ... show more

  • Convenient - when you need it
And there isn't as much a need nowadays as there once was. Years ago we would take our little family on vacation in the van, and I would hook up a television and a vcr for the kids to watch movies while we drove. Wow, did that help! A 110v power inverter was essential equipment back then, because all of the portable, streaming, and built-in stuff had yet to be invented. My setup was the envy of my friends when they heard about it. Well, now - of course - all of that stuff is in the kid's phones, which you can't pry them off of (and my kids are long gone with kids of their own). So, why do I want this inverter? Emergencies. It's not like I'm any kind of prepper, but some contingencies are just so easy to plan for in advance, and getting AC power from your car via an inverter like this device is a much cheaper and more transportable solution than owning a big generator (although I have both). I don't anticipate ever really needing this inverter, but if I ever do, well - there it is (my original one having been "borrowed" and never returned). This one is quite nice, for a variety of reasons. The price is right (which is always important to me), and it's tiny compared to my original. It has two outlets, which is a must for me. Both provide reliable and stable 110v. I didn't measure the currents to verify the power, but the rating at 400w is great. The USB-C port is nice, and I verified that it gave my phone juice at super-fast charging levels (although there are better solutions for that). The USB-A port might not get much use from me, but as a second USB port, that's also a convenience. The instruction booklet is extremely terse, and I couldn't find any additional instructions on the internet. But, I think it's pretty great. Highly recommended. ... show more
