They are marked L/R so that the battery pack is worn on the outside of the leg, so they would have worked anyway, but they are more comfortable the right way. One pair is for a gift, so I'm glad I looked. These socks are nice and thick and plenty warm even without power, but it's nice to have. I can't actually feel the heat on my feet at the lowest setting, but the feet stay warm when outside in the cold, so I really like them. These socks come with their own USB rechargeable batteries. The batteries take several hours to charge, and the instructions warn not to allow them to overcharge. They are easy to plug into the socks, and each sock has a battery pocket. On cold nights, I like to wear three pairs of socks - one pair under the heated socks and another pair over them. This keeps the heat right where it should be without causing any unnecessary wear and tear on the socks. My frozen little toes become very happy. I gave it 4 four stars instead of five because one of the batteries seems to have trouble. It only works with one of the socks, and it has to be plugged in a certain way. Bought these socks for hunting from a climbing stand. PROS: hugs the feet and legs great no sagging, warms up quickly and stays toasty for about 4 hours, seven if it's not too cold. CONS: when layering for colder climates the socks go on first so now, we can't reach batteries through the long johns and pants and coveralls to turn them on/off without stripping down out in the blizzard. don't need them turned on when walking to and from the stand. I was really skeptical these would work BUT, they do work. Maybe not to the degree a person would imagine but it makes a difference . I’d still recommend them for camping nights or at home if your feet are usually cold while sleeping.

Upon receiving first set of heated socks had an issue with one of the two Lithium batteries not charging. I immediately reached out to Amazon and was provided with Americapes contact info to resolve issue. Americapes responded in less than 24 hours (01/15/23) and a replacement was said to be coming by Friday (1/20/23). Upon walking out my door today (1/17/23), I received the replacement package. All batteries are charging appropriately now. They took care of my issue almost immediately.
