This is a five star set for value. Obviously there are chisel sets that cost hundreds of times what this kit does. However, I was absolutely floored by the consistent machining. Most chisels require some setup, but anything under a certain price point is usually going to be more trouble than it is worth. Not this set. The blades actually come reasonably sharp. The backs of the chisels are quite flat... I took a Sharpie and ran them on a water stone, and you can see a very slight bow but really not a lot. It's easy to grind that away. The edge is relatively square, just a fraction of a mm of imprecision when measured against my machinist's square. The lower edge of the chisel is a tad sharp so you will have to dull it out. The top and sides are a bit rough in terms of grind but the fact that the edge is in good shape and square means you don't have to do much work. Handles are a bit glossy and slippery for my tastes, the ring around the butts could be tighter. However, for the price you get a chisel set that you can pretty much immediately use for brute force construction, etc. For more fine work you'll have to spend time with them. No idea about how long an edge lasts. Will update later. ... show more

While getting some home improvements done, this has been helpful to get things out of place with the wood floors. It definitely gets the job done, but the main issue is the handle of these tools are not the best quality and can splinter with enough force. Just keep in mind that it will still get the job done and will need to wrap the handles to ensure it can finish any job you have in mind. Still recommend it. ... show more

    • My overall experience with these chisels has been very favorable.
I ordered this set of chisels to expand my options when working on wood projects. Several features of this set attracted me. First, there are four chisel widths (in increments of ¼-inch) ranging from ¼-inch to 1-inch. Second, these chisels have the same steel hardness specification as high-end brands, yet at a fraction of the cost. This makes them a smart and budget-friendly choice for any woodworking project. Third, the solid wood handles are beechwood and should withstand repeated hammering, although I am sure they will last longest when using a wooden mallet. It would have been nice if the manufacturer had included a pouch or carrying case to protect the chisel tips during storage and transport. I ordered a separate tool bag to serve that purpose. My overall experience with these chisels has been very favorable. They perform well compared to my Craftsman and Stanley brands. If you are in the market for wood chisels, you owe it to yourself to consider this set. ... show more

I hesitated to get these chisels because I hate bringing poor quality tools into the world. But getting these was not a mistake. I was influenced to try these chisels by British chisel expert, Paul Sellers, who has waxed enthusiastically about the high quality of cheap Aldi-sold chisels. This set looked about the same. The specifications are sterling: chromium vanadium steel, Rockwell C60 hardness, and beech or ash handles (depending on which product description you believe). The only real misdirection in the seller's description is that they have octagonal handles. They do not. But on arrival, it was clear that these are high quality tools. The machining and finishing are very good and they chisels are wicked sharp right out the box -- very uncommon for inexpensive chisels. I'm not fond of the glossy varnished finish of the handles, so I plan to strip them and just oil the ash. It looks and feels better. I have high hopes for the durability of these chisels and that they will hold an edge without complaint. Well worth giving them a try. ... show more

    • Very inexpensive but pretty good
These are very inexpensive, so much so that I had no expectations, it was more of a curiosity thing with little to lose at this price. I'm pretty surprised at how decent these are. They have edge protectors, and they're all reasonably sharp out of the case. The 18mm chisel was very slightly out of alignment with the handle, but you had to look on it from the end to see that. The handles have a flat spot on two sides, and I haven't seen that before. It doesn't bother me, but chisels I've seen and had were always round, so I wonder why they did that. These will never replace your high quality chisels, but for an everyday set for DIY and such, they're really pretty good overall, and you won't lose sleep if you damage or lose one at this price. ... show more

First off, this is a great value for this variety pack of wood chisels. Usually chisels like this cost many times what these do. The handles look nice and are shaped well so they feel comfortable in the hand. The machining is nice and smooth and the edges are square enough for my needs. The blades were sharp enough to begin using out of the box and they come with protectors that can be snapped on for storage/transport. The sizes are the most common for most people’s needs. If you’re looking for a decent set of chisels that wont break the bank, this is a great option. ... show more

    • These work okay, but the larger one seemed to dull quicker than better brands i've used.
so these were fine at their price and i got these to so some chisel work on plastic projects and soft woods. however i would not recommend these one hardwood projects such as oak or bamboo composite. these will likely dull much to fast or to easily if you apply pressure at any form of an angle on hardwoods. ... show more

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these chisels given the low price. In a quick test, I found that the blades are very sharp and handles are comfortable to hold giving good control.
