Features

  • Helps Inhibit Scale: Polyphosphates included in This Product bind calcium and magnesium hardness minerals, preventing them from becoming a solid to help reduce the build-up of mineral scale in pipes and water using appliances
  • Helps Protect Hot Water Heaters: Extend the life of water-using appliances such as water heaters, clothes washers and dishwashing machines, as well as plumbing fixtures like faucets, pipes and shower heads by reducing scale build-up and corrosion
  • Not a Filter, A Scale Reduction System: System diverts only a small portion of water passing through the system head into the cartridge to inject polyphosphates in minute concentrations and return it to the water supply to help reduce scale build-up
  • Minute concentrations of polyphosphates help reduce scale build-up by inhibiting the build-up of hardness minerals onto metallic surfaces. Polyphosphates also help reduce corrosion by forming a thin protective layer on the inner-surface of pipes
  • Maintains Efficiency: By Inhibiting Scale Build Up On Heating Elements, Helps Maintain Water Heater Efficiency
  • Easy To Replace: Easy Change Out Of The 3M Aqua-Pure Ap431 Replacement Water Cartridge Makes System Maintenance Easier
  • High Flow Rates: The AP430SS provides unrestricted flow of up to 10 gpm (37.9 lpm) when installed with 3/4 NPT inlet/outlet connections
  • System is to be installed on cold water line feeding water to the water heater. Included System Head fittings are two 3/4" NPT (female) connections. Additional parts and tools are required for installation and not included
  • For parts and tools required, read all instructions carefully and measure your cold water line feed pipe before attempting to start installation
  • Binds calcium and magnesium hardness minerals, preventing them from precipitating out of solution and building up on metallic surfaces

  • Stainless Steel Head
  • Flow rate 6 gallons per minute
  • Max operating Temp 100F

Description

The 3M Aqua-Pure whole house scale inhibition inline water system AP430SS is designed to help reduce scale build-up and corrosion - thereby helping to extend the life on hot water-using appliances such as water heaters (standard gas, standard electric and tankless), boilers, clothes washers and dishwashing machines, and on plumbing fixtures like faucets, pipes, and shower heads. The AP430SS provides a flow of up to 10 gallons per minute (37.9 liters per minute) when installed with 3/4” NPT inlet/outlet connections. Scale is calcium and magnesium mineral deposits that often form when hard water is heated. Water hardness is responsible for most scale formation in pipes, water heaters, finishes and flat surfaces, and other water using appliances. Over the time scale build-up can significantly shorten the life of any water-using appliance. Also scale buildup inside pipes causes loss of water pressure as the interior gets smaller and smaller over time. The AP430SS contains polyphosphates to bind calcium and magnesium hardness minerals, helping to prevent them from precipitating out (or becoming a solid) and building up on metallic surfaces. Polyphosphates also helps reduce corrosion by forming a thin protective layer on the metal surface. The 3M Scale Inhibition Water System AP430SS is tested by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Std. 42 for material and structural requirements only. The overall single vessel/cartridge design of the AP430SS makes the 3M Aqua-Pure AP431 Water Filter Cartridge change-out easy for professionals as well as end users. Change disposable filter cartridge every 6 months or sooner if you observe noticeable reduction in water flow rate. The AP430SS is to be installed on the cold water supply line of the water heater or at point-of-entry of water into the home. Tools and parts required (not included): one 3/4” stop and waste valve (compression type), PTFE tape, two 3/4” male x 3/4” street adapters, one 3/4” compression gate valve, and pipe cutter. Read all instructions carefully before attempting to start installation. The existing shut-off valve remains in place and still acts as the cold water shut-off. This filter system has two 3/4” NPT female connections, but you may need additional adapter fittings (not included) to match up to your piping. Measure your cold water supply line pipe to ensure proper connection sizing and fittings. The AP430SS can be adapted to various pipe sizes by using a reducing adapter (not included) on either end of the 3/4” NPT head. Adapter fittings (not included) can be sweated, threaded, or quick-connected to adapt to various pipe types like copper, galvanized pipe or PEX tubing using appropriate adapter fittings. Use galvanized fittings for installation of galvanized pipe.

  • Works like a dream
Style: AP430 System
I don't understand the poor reviews that some have posted. The design and build of this anti-scale device is top notch. Most of the water entering the tee passes through, but a small flow is diverted into the bead bed and then reinjected into the main water flow. This is on purpose because the reagent that prevents scale buildup is very effective at very low concentrations, and allows the beads to last a long time. My boiler no longer requires me to acid flush which is time consuming and messy. ... show more

  • Used sharkbites and was easy to install
Style: AP430 System
My PEX tubing is 3/4" diameter so I bought 2 sharkbites with a male 3/4" threaded end, and the other end 3/4" connector for PEX. The entire install took some 30 minutes. Make sure you use Teflon tape on the thread and wrap it clockwise.

  • Polyphosphate Power! ... Evil Calcium Trembles!
Style: AP430 System
Works with magic and unicorn tears. :o) It is not a filter. It is a water treatment system. The stainless steel head is robust and a nice solid chunk of metal. Easily could withstand brazing/soldering, on the spot, with the cartridge off. The 3/4" NPT inlet and outlet has nearly a clear flow path, so your GPM, will not be reduced. Install a ball or gate valve in front to permit easy cartridge changeouts. The tee must be orientated to the water flow, use the arrow on the side of the tee, for the water to get treated while flowing. There is an elevated tab in the tee with a single hole for directing a small portion of the water down into the center whole of the cartridge. The water slowly dissolves a small amount of food-grade polyphosphate from the beads and, using the venturi effect, the water is then pulled back through the 8 holes in the cartridge perimeter and through the 3 holes in the tee, surrounding the center tab, to mix with the flowing water. Only 2 to 3 ppm is needed to treat for scale. From past uses at a different home, I've gotten about 20,000 gallons out of a cartridge with still some beads rattling in the bottom when replacing the cartridge. I would say that if you used less than 2,000 gallons a month then one cartridge should easily last a year. The cartridge threads are plastic and you can easily cross-thread them if you get in a hurry replacing the cartridge. Just make sure you get the threads started straight and it screws up with no problems. The threads do no provide the seal, it is the o-ring so once hand-tight that is tight enough. ... show more

  • Good protection for hot water heaters and appliances
Style: AP431 Cartridge
Our house has a water softening system, so when I saw that the current filter was 7/8 years old when we purchased our home, I wasn’t too worried about the filter. After living here for 2 1/2 years, we have accidentally let the saltwater brine tank run out a few times, so hard water has made it through. After flushing our instant hot tankless water heater with 2 gallons of vinegar, I saw how much calcium scale was actually in there. So, I decided to purchase a new pre-filter, especially when my plumber friend suggested it would probably be a good idea. However, he said we probably won’t need to replace it again for a number of years, as long as we don’t let the brine tank run out very often 😆 ... show more

  • Simple solution without sodium
Style: AP430 System
This turned out to be a simple, effective solution to two problems associated with my well water. At 12.86 gpg of CaCo3 (Calcium Carbonate) or 2.36 gpg above the "Very Hard" threshold, I had problems with calcium deposits in my boiler from the boiler feed water inflow and problems from my hot water throughout the house. Since all the water going to my dishwasher came from a hot water line, water spots on glassware were unsightly. I installed the Aqua-Pure AP430SS just before both the boiler feed and the supply to the indirect hot water tank. The water spots are gone and there are more soap bubbles when showering. A note to those who think the shiny silver thing on the top assembly is an overpriced ¾" SS tee. . . it's more than that. It is a machined casting with a scoop diverter to cause some of the water flowing through it to flow downward into the canister where it mixes with the food-grade poly phosphate in the replaceable canister before it returns through small holes drilled inside the tee to the pipe above where it ties up the CaCo3 as it flows on its merry way unable to plate our as scale. Time will tell, but, I prefer it over a water softener because it is sodium free which seems like a good thing in this stressful world of high blood pressure. Also, it won't kill the beneficial bugs in my septic system. Whew – enough said! ... show more
