Description

The Aqua-Pure 3M Under Sink Water Filter System Aqua-Pure AP-DWS1000 Under Sink Dedicated Faucet Water Filter System helps reduce particulate, chlorine taste and odor, lead, turbidity, parasitic protozoan cysts, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) that may be in your drinking water. This system connects easily under the kitchen sink and incorporates an advanced dual stage carbon-block filtration process to help provide cleaner, clearer better tasting drinking water filtration on demand. It is ideal for drinking (water, coffee, tea, baby formula, etc.) as well as for cooking. Its universal system design is effective for use in both chlorinated (municipal) and non-chlorinated (well water) systems. The innovative Sanitary Quick Change (SQC) design allows for fast and easy cartridge change-outs without having to contact the filter media or without the need for tools. In many filtration applications, carbon is often the preferred media of choice to absorb certain impurities and one of the most powerful absorbents available. Carbon is highly effective due to the vast surface area contained within a small footprint. One pound of carbon contains a surface area of approximately 100 to 125 acres and can absorb an extremely wide range of substances which may be in drinking water. Filter Specs: 0.6 gpm/2.27 lpm flow rate, 625 gallon/2,366 liter capacity, 1/4" push-in connection fittings, 25-125 psi/172-862 kPa pressure range, 40-100F/4.4-37.8C. The AP-DWS1000 System includes everything needed for most installations, including: a polished chrome dedicated faucet, quick-connect fittings, an attached mounting bracket, shroud and tubing. Also included is a built-in shut-off valve that allows for changing the Sanitary Quick Change filters without shutting off the water supply. Tools required for installation: drill, adjustable wrench, 8 gauge fastening screws appropriate for mounting surface, Phillips head screwdriver, razor knife or tube cutter. To maximize system performance and efficiency, regularly scheduled maintenance including replacement of the filter cartridges at the required interval, at the rated capacity, or sooner if a reduction in water flow occurs is required. Cartridge should be changed at least every 6 months. Filter life is dependent on actual use and incoming water quality.

Top Amazon Reviews

  • Water is Crystal Clear.....Instructions not so much
Style: Dedicated Faucet
Accuracy of Product Description 3/5 Main reason that I'm giving the description a rating of 3/5 stars is because technically this isn't the Aqua-Pure AP-DWS1000, it's the Aqua-Pure AP-DWS1000LF. The difference is that the "LF" version doesn't include the faucet. So that faucet that you see in all of the product images - yep, not included. Instead you get a shiny chrome faucet, which was fine (I can post a product link / photo of the faucet the system comes with if someone is curious) - but it would have been nice to know that so I didn't spend 20 minutes searching the internet for why I received a different faucet. Packing 5/5 The system arrived very well packed and all the items were wrapped in loose plastic to prevent scuffing. Functionality 5/5 Functionality is why I bought this specific filter. Even though this system isn't the highest rated, nor the most popular, brand on Amazon I went with this one because when it came to water quality/taste it seemed (in my opinion) to have the best reviews. It was/is also rated #2 in undersink water filtration systems by Consumer Reports. Note the #1 filtration system is about 3 times the price of this one. Instructions 2/5 The instructions........if this isn't the first review you've read for the Aqua-Pure AP-DWS1000 you will most likely have an idea as to where I'm going with this. It's not that the instructions are the worst you'll ever read, because they aren't *that* bad. The issue with the instructions is that they are out-of-date - by at least 2 years. I ended up using another Amazon review (posted September 30, 2012) to help me figure out where the "saddle valve" that the instructions kept mentioning was. Spoiler: There's no saddle valve. What you receive instead is called a "Feed water connector." Stock image of the feedwater connector: (stock photo: http://i.imgur.com/Zn2HH0f.jpg ). This is a picture of what you receive instead of the saddle valve: http://i.imgur.com/sFvUoW1.jpg (my apologies for not having a better picture of the part, I didn't think I was going to write a review during the installation. I'll get into the reasons why I have this one picture shortly). Main things to know about the piece you get instead of a saddle-valve: both the inlet and the outlet are 3/4" (this tidbit isn't listed anywhere on the part, I had to measure). For your own sanity I highly recommend measuring the connections to your water pipes before getting too far into this, mine are 1/2" and resulted in having to make a trip to the hardware store mid-installation, hence my taking a picture of the part next to my flex hose. The other item regarding the instructions that I want to touch on is the "blue tubing" that gets mentioned with the faucet assembly. There is no blue tubing. Because you get a different faucet than what the product actually comes with there is no blue tubing (it's white, and attached to the faucet assembly). Key takeaways for the Aqua-Pure AP-DWS1000 Drinking Water System: - it's truly is a great filtration system - the instructions are out-dated. If you know going into the installation that they aren't the best it makes the installation process easier. - There is NO saddle-valve - You can absolutely install this yourself (note: I did not have to drill a hole in my counter top since I was replacing an undersink soap dispenser, so I can't comment on whether drilling the hole is something you can DIY). Edit: Found a stock photo for the feed water connector, added it to the bit where I talk about it not being the saddle-valve. ... show more

  • Good Water - Tough Install
Style: Dedicated Faucet
It was time to replace our old malfunctioning filter, so I wanted to make sure I got a good one. Figuring 3M is a good name, I went with this one. Two days in, and we're loving the water quality and flow rate, which is MUCH better than our old filter. The install was a bear though. First thing I noticed was that the parts in the box didn't match the parts on the list. I was fortunate that our previous filter used the same 1/4" tubing, so the tie-in to the supply line was already in place. Otherwise, I would not have been able to install without buying additional fittings and/or valves, although I did need to run out to the store for a new compression ring. Given that I had the supply line already tied in, the hardest part by far, was installing the faucet, even though there was already a hole in place. I would recommend having a helper for that part, as I fought in vain for over an hour trying on my own before help arrived. I had to chuckle at the installation video, where they said "installation is easy", then tell you to install the faucet and "consult installation manual for detailed instructions", which can't really be followed anyhow, since the parts are different. It would be much nicer if detailed instructions were shown in the video. Only other issue I had was that space under the sink is pretty tight, and as such, I couldn't fit the cover on the unit, but don't really need it. Glad to have it installed and providing a good supply of drinking water. We'll see how it is going forward. ... show more

  • 5 stars for water filtering system, 1 star for the adapter and installation.
Style: Dedicated Faucet
Short version: Nice system, but don't use the adapter they provide, get this instead: JG Speedfit ASVPP1LF 3/8-Inch by 3/8-Inch by 1/4-Inch Angle Stop Adapter Valve JG Speedfit ASVPP1LF 3/8-Inch by 3/8-Inch by 1/4-Inch Angle Stop Adapter Valve This ended up being an installation review... I had high hopes for this filter system, and it seems good so far for the filtering itself. The water tastes ok, it's great not going through bottles, and the yearly-or-so filter replacement will be nice. BUT, the plastic T adapter they now provide with it is horrible - took me 5 hours to install, and several trips to the hardware store. The problem with the T adapter they provide is the plastic is so soft, it crosses threads very very easily. I was able to re-tap the female side with a fitting from HD, but the male side was ruined, and I barely turned the nut onto it. It's compounded by limited access under the sink to get it right, but even being very careful, once it's crossed, you're done. I tried the white plumbers' goop instead of the tape, just to let as much thread stick out, but to no avail (I still used the goop below too; I like it better than the tape.) I finally ordered the valve above, and it worked like a charm. The valve above has metal fittings, so it threads properly, and it has a nice shutoff valve, so you can shut this off separately from your sink. I have those typical chrome handle valves that once turned, they never seat again, so it will be nice to leave it alone to change the filters. As a huge bonus, it also swivels independently of its fittings, so it doesn't have to "end up" where you need it. Thread both ends as snug as you like, and then spin the valve to point the tubing where you want. I had a hard time making sure this would be the right one, because I was searching for a T or Tee like they provided, but this is an "adapter valve", not just a T. It's 3/8 inch and attached to the end of the valve coming out of the wall; the adapter that came with the system went up on the faucet end. Some of these JG adapters come with a thread size converter (this one didn't), so you can get those if you're not sure. Basically, all this water filter / coffee maker / ice maker stuff is 1/4 line, John Guest brand. Your sink fittings are generally either 3/8" or 1/2" on various ends. I figured it out from the braided line between the valve and the sink faucet. Back to the 3M Aqua-Pure system, on a separate note, the instructions are very poor. Hardly any of the hardware matches what they describe - the various nuts, washers, plates, tubing are all different. There's an insert about the different adapter. You basically have to figure it out for yourself. It's not that hard, it just takes time to know you're right. e.g., the top side needs about 3/4" clearance to get the cover on and off, so I had to remount it lower (but not too low, or you can't get the filters off). Someone with technical writing skills needs to rewrite the instructions. I also got some more water line tubing. The tube from the filter to the faucet barely reached across my 28" cabinet, with no slack. I wanted to run it away from everything else under the sink, so I needed another foot. On a positive note, the faucet handle is quite sturdy. The faucet itself felt a little flimsy installing, so I was expecting the whole thing to feel loose and cheap, but it's not. The handle turns firmly on, and firmly off. Since that's what you use 99% of the time after the installation, it's good it feels sturdy and worth all the trouble. Bottom line is 3M Aqua-Pure has a nice system, but it's too bad they're wrecking it with cheap hardware and poor instructions. ... show more

  • Good flow and no leaks
Style: Dedicated Faucet
Much better quality than the previous one I had. Filters have not leaked like another reviews. Flow rate is great. Quality of faucet is solid. Expensive but I got an open box deal. Three months installed at this point
