    • Not a high-end sharpening set but saves wear and tear on your high-end sharpening set.
This is a $15 set of diamond plates. I wasn't expecting it to compete with my better sharpening tools. What I wanted these to do is cut the bulk of material from my abused bench chisels or other flat bevel tools so I'm not wearing out my better / more expensive stones and diamond plates. They do this very well. They're made from sheet metal. They need to be supported if you plan to use pressure against them. Laying them on a table or wood block works very well. The sheet metal was cut using a (dull) sheer that leaves a rough burr on one side higher than the surface of the plate and can gum up your tools if you hit it. File / grind off the burr and the problem is gone. ... show more

    • Amazon has finally solved the "high quality" Myth when dealing with 'Made in China' products!
As a consumer, I want the most value for my money and time. Foreign companies (specially China) all claim the 'high quality' phrase as if in reality, that meant anything to them and they 'dish it out' as if they were giving freebies away. Thank goodness for Amazon's returns and guarantee practices where the customer really comes first, maybe that's the secret of their success. I buy as many as 50 items every 3 months from Amazon and it doesn't mean I have money to waste... Sorry eBay, no more back & forth messaging with Chinese Nationals who hardly understand what they try to explain and waiting for days or never and try to "rely" on eBay for a "guarantee" poorly served. I have lost over $2,600 with eBay & Paypal, so I'm done... Now, dealing with Chinese & foreign manufacturers has become fair game thanks to Amazon and what was once a pain in the pocket to return and deal with sub par and exaggerated claims on products, now is as easy as buying at Walmart or Target without the hustle of driving or waiting 'online' (pun intended! He! He!) Now I get to put "Chinese quality" to the test and don't get me wrong, I'm not putting all 'Made in China' stuff down but instead, I get to see which Chinese products are quality made and which are just empty claims such as these 'diamond' honing plates in question here. It's too bad I didn't take photos before returning them but, after a single use (and gently, I was sharpening a Brand New chisel just out of the box!), the 'grit' of the plate got reduced from 600 to what it looked like a 5000 worned out surface in just a few strokes! Plates were made out of cheap steel and the 'diamond' coating wore away within a few strokes and they had no rubber backing on them, just a plain plate. My 400 Grit 3M sandpaper on a wooden block has lasted longer! I bought a second set of diamond plates from Honoson for an extra $6.00 and these ($2.00 more per plate) with a 'honeycomb' design and rubber backing which pretty much stays in place in any surface so, no mounting needed. So far they've held up pretty decently and do a good job of sharpening my blades, we'll see how they last with a few more honings... I'm not recommending anything or anyone, just reporting out of my own experience and I'm "quoting" this product description from their own Amazon page: "Quality Material Selection: our diamond stone sharpener is made of diamond material with good wear and corrosion resistance, not easy to fracture or fade, serving you for a long time" ?What? Really?! After just a Single 15 strokes use?!? What a Joke! I Hope this helps anyone who, like me, understands 'value' in this Economy and now with Amazon, let's put China to the test...     • Not worth the savings
I watched a Youtube video of Paul Sellers using what looked like exactly these diamond stones to sharpen a set of chisels. He mentioned that the ones he was using were inexpensive Chinese stones and that he loved them. After seeing the prices for DMT diamond stones, I was intrigued enough to give these a try based on his opinion. I was able to sharpen one or two chisels with these stones before the grit on all of them was completely gone. I was luckily able to return them to Amazon for a full refund. Dont waste your time on these cheap versions, no matter how inexpensive they seem compared to the more expensive stones. I guarantee you will be in the same boat as me, returning them for a refund. ... show more
