I purchased these bowling towels to replace a black, round Storm shammy that I've used for a couple of years. These towels are larger than the Storm shammy. One side is a microfiber cloth used to wipe the ball down with. The other side has a large number of "bumps" for your hand to grip and use the towel with. I really like the grip feature on the towel for two reasons: 1. It makes it easier to use the towel on the ball. 2. I turn the towel over so the "grip" is against the ball and it makes it easier for me to pick up my bowling ball from the ball return. I think this would be better if it was almost like an oven mix so you could slide your hand inside of it, it is absorbent, but it’s a little awkward to hold because it’s not stiff but it’s not stiff but it’s somewhere in between
