The media could not be loaded. This is a beautiful and clean rimless aquarium. The back is dark glass to bring contrast to the aquarium contents. The kit came with the tank, a filter, filter media, a light, and the items required to physically divide the tank in two (suction cups and clear and opaque separator panels). An owner's manual is also supplied and it gives thorough instructions on properly installing the filter system. Most fishkeepers recommend a 3 gallon tank minimum per Betta, so I can't recommend this tank for two, even with the partition installed, but for shrimp or nano fish the setup should be sufficient. I assembled the filter, filled the tank and tested the light. The light is very bright, and gets warm but not hot to the touch after being on for hours. It is labelled as full spectrum so it should be more than adequate to support planted tanks. The filter, like many hang-on-back (HOB) types, must be primed, or filled with water, before providing power to it. Otherwise the pump will likely not be able to purge air and move water effectively. This is a simple process, and the filter ran flawlessly, if not a little loudly, for the 8 hours I tested it. The filter is about as noisy as an aquarium air pump, which I didn't expect, as they are normally quieter, but the noise level isn't a deal-breaker. My only concern with this type of filter is that in the event of a power outage the filter will lose its prime, and should the power turn back on with no one around to prime the pump, it could run dry and fail. I will either be adding a battery backup to the system, or replace it with an air pump and check valve so this isn't a concern. The only other issue I found with the kit is that while the included filter sponge fits perfectly into the filter, the separate charcoal/physical media cartridge does not. There is a slot cut into the filter housing that almost lines up with the cartridge, but not quite. It looks as if the two halves of the cartridge were of opposite thicknesses, it would fit in the housing, but alas, it doesn't. It can be forced into the housing, but then the filter sponge will not fit. At any rate, I wouldn't use this cartridge in any case - I'm a firm believer in biological filtration, and the sponge is far superior for this application. All in all, this is a very nice looking tank. Even though some of the accessories aren't perfect, this is a very good all-in-one kit that can serve as a basis for a quality setup. ... show more

This is an almost complete aquarium kit.. It has a small tank, 3 gallons, about the size of two shoe boxes. It has a plastic cover, a filter system and a nice light. The back is kinda blacked out, but still somewhat see through.. I had aquariums for years, and back then I thought bigger is better. Now I am really pleased with this small set. It is on the counter in the laundry room, next to the sink. It only takes a few minutes to fill, which is a huge plus. The filter plugs in, it sucks water up a tube with a foam cover, the water goes through the filter and back out.. There is even a nob you can adjust the rate. The light clamps on to the back, with a bendable neck.. The light is bright and cheerful. I added some gravel that I purchased at a big box store, and a little fake plant. The set does include a plastic top.. It is in four pieces, two frames and two covers. They will prevent jumpers. If you plan on having some tropical fish, you will need to buy a heater, a small heater. It all depends on the needs of your fish. Overall I really like the size of this aquarium, and how simple it was to get going. The frame less tank is sleek.. the light is pleasant.. and the filter runs quietly. ... show more

    • Exactly what I needed
I was super excited to get this tank because it's the exact dimensions that I was looking for. I have a very old 2.5 gallon that desperately needed to be upgraded because the glass was thin and the silicone was wearing out, plus the trim was really cheap to begin with. This tank is the exact same size but a little taller which is a real bonus. I love the look of rimless tanks too. It's the "black" option, but the back glass still has a little bit of transparency to it. It's more of a really dark smoky color, and the glass is colored, it's not just a paint that could chip and scratch off. It came with an adhesive foam on the bottom so I don't have to worry about it falling off when I move it for cleaning. The silicone job looks perfect and professional. The filter is a really cute mini version of a standard motor driven HOB, with two options for the filter pad. One is a multi-layer sponge and the other is more of a cartridge with some carbon pieces inside. The divider is super cool for keeping 2 bettas and it has a nice removeable blackout plate to keep them out of view from each other. The lids are nice, there are 2, and they both have inserts, there are so many options to arrange them, and they have holes to allow for feeding and airflow. The light is pretty awesome, and that might be my only concern is that they're extremely bright, and not dimmable. I can really see algae growth becoming an issue if you keep them on too long each day. Maybe I can attach a dark filter or something for dimming, it's not a big issue, but I wish maybe it had a few brightness modes but it's a minor concern and wasn't enough to affect my rating. Just a note, that it does not come with a heater if you require one, but I really love the tank, thank you very much. ... show more

This rimless glass tank is a good choice for a single betta in my opinion and it comes with useful features like dividers, a quiet filter, and a two-piece lid with feeding holes. While the dividers could allow multiple fish, I wouldn’t recommend housing bettas together as it stresses them out. The included filter works, but it’s small—I ended up using my old filter instead. I wish the tank came with a larger filter initially. The included light is way too bright and not dimmable, so I swapped it out for another one I had. Dimmable lights would be a nice improvement. Assembly was simple aside from one extra filter piece I wasn’t sure about. At $40, this is a reasonably priced tank with solid features, though it was $50 when I purchased it. Overall, it’s a good starter tank or a nice home for a single betta, but it could use better accessories. ... show more
