  • Works -- But Be Patient
I started hearing scratching/skittering noises at dusk and dawn in my attic about a month ago. Found out it was nest-building season for squirrels. Well, they've got all outdoors to run around and build nests in. I went to work researching non-lethal and economical ways to ward them off. Mint and citrus came up time after time as top turn-offs for squirrels. I got tired of lobbing essential oil-soaked rags up there, so I supplemented with THESE beauties. Yep, they DO have a vague mothball scent, right out of the bag, but there's mint in there. And who CARES, if they do the job? Product comes with very little info/instruction, but similar products call for one pellet every six feet. I've done two deployments, now. Have heard 'the thing' up there briefly a time or two, but it's clear it doesn't like the way the attic smells. (Down below, the scent is undetectable to me.) So it's a deterrent, and not a barrier or a poison, so it may take a while to work. I say start lobbing these things IMMEDIATELY after you hear any activity and refresh every two or three weeks. The claim is that the pellets maintain potency longer, but I'm not sure about that. Manufacturer needs to provide more information and useful tips. ... show more

  • Not what it says it is
I reached out to the seller before leaving this review. These are nothing but king size mothballs that your grandparents or parents may had used in the passed. (Depending on your age) There is not one ounce of peppermint scent in them. No instructions in box and once I open them and put them out I got sick and had to pick them all back up and toss. It says safe for people and pets and that is far from the truth. No one should be inhaling the fragrance from these balls. Do not buy!! ... show more

  • Does work
Purchased for use in a 6x5 storage unit that i observed droppings in the winter. Cleaned up droppings and placed 3-5 of these strongly scented balls to deter any mice. 1 month later haven't seen any new droppings yet. Made the mistake of storing the opened box in my car for a week, took about 3 weeks for the strong scent to leave the vehicle after box was removed. Gotta take the good with the bad some days lol. ... show more

  • Strong Moth Ball smell
Definitely smells like moth balls. You absolutely do NOT smell any of the listed scents. The smell is strong so they work better outside. I did throw a couple in my attic and you can smell it through the house. I bought a bottle of peppermint oil and decided to spray the attic down and outside barrier all around house and seems to work with the moth balls. I would suggest buying these and some peppermint oil and soaking these in the oil then spread out around outside of house. Seems to help keep ants and mice away better with both. 3 stars because it does work and is strong scent but it smells like moth balls and nothing like the description. Had to purchase peppermint oil separately to make more effective. ... show more

  • Strong oder but works.
Strong oder with a hint of mint. I been using the same 3 moth balls since I bought this pack a month ago. No more signs of critters in my engine and no new nest. If you already have heavy activity in your engine bay, I'd buy rodent tape for extra deterrence for them not to chew wires. I'd give this a 5 star if the bags they came with weren't so bad. Majority of em are missing strings to hang or tighten. But regardless the product itself is great quality. I'd definitely buy this again tho worth every penny still. I'll change my review once I test them in my back yard. ... show more

  • Finally, the mice are gone.
First of all, these do not smell, like peppermint, they smell like mothballs to me. But they do work. I have had mice in my RV every winter when I store it and tried all kinds of poison and sprays that never got rid of them. I put these Balls out when the weather was getting cold, and the mice were gone in three days and they have not been back! If you do not like the smell of mothballs, then you can try other things that never have work for me. I even put them in my house And the mice are gone. They really do work. I even put them in my old pick up truck that they seem to find as an home and they left that also so if you can stand the smell of mothballs, at least that’s what they smell like to me, you will NOT have another mouse problem , now I have tried regular mouth balls, but they never worked, these do, don’t be afraid to buy these! ... show more

  • Just say NO!!!
This product claimed to smell like peppermint. Well it DOES NOT. It smells like mothballs. Horrible smell. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It doesn’t even deserve the one star I had to give in order to submit my review
