We specifically did NOT want the Factory roof bars on the top of our Taco when we bought it in 2023. We found from previous vehicles that we owned, that these actually have several disadvantages. So, we we made sure that our new Taco that we ordered, did not have these roof rails, factory installed. We ordered this particular set of locking and removeable roof-bars, for several reasons: - Ergonomic. I want to take a moment to highlight some discrepancies I encountered. The webpage advertises that the product can hold a maximum of 220 lbs., in contrast to other similar products which can only hold 165 lbs. Upon referring to the installation manual, however, it states that the maximum weight capacity is 165 lbs. During the installation process, I faced several challenges. Cutting the Tacoma top rubber rails/weather strip at four specified locations was particularly time-consuming; it took me three hours to complete. I realized that the rubber rail contained an aluminum core, which required the use of my power tool to cut through. Although the manual specifies the locations and width of the cuts, it fails to provide guidance on the cutting process. I believe some suggestions would make it much easier. Additionally, there was a white foam on the rail which serves as an original adhesive. Despite not removing all of it, I had to reinforce it with extra strength double-sided tape to withstand wind pressure. Despite these challenges, the unit now feels sturdy post-installation. However, I believe it would have been more secure if they had used two holes on each base for fastening, rather than just one. Overall, the installation process is straightforward if you don't have to cut the rubber rail. However, it becomes considerably more difficult with cutting, especially for those lacking appropriate tools or experience with cutting techniques. ... show more
