  • heck yeah!
I have been using a 2nd gen apple TV since they came out. BIG improvement in performance, capability, and interface. a few things I have noticed: 1) I'm not a big "smart tv" guy, but there are some very useful apps available 2) AirPlay much more reliable 3) i always have trouble with my cable box, appleTV, tv, and sound bar HDMI interface getting... confused. Since I have started using the apple TV remote to start up and shut down my system, I have had no issues. 4) the only bad thing i have noticed is the little track pad on the remote that is integrated into the multidirectional "button". it is so sensitive that even trying to page though things, it would send the focus off to another area. With some ... much practice i guess i could get used to it, but i don't really see the purpose. It can be turned off in the settings, but there are functions, like picture in picture, that seem to require it to access them. in the end, drink deeply of the Apple kool-aide and get one, I love mine! ... show more

  • Took a bit of getting used to
This is a nice upgrade from the Roku, versions of which I’ve had 3 over the past 10 years or so. I don’t change out my tech very often. It took a bit of training on my part, you have to plug the thing in and just work with it in order to figure out what and where everything is. Tip: make a visit to the settings department sooner rather than later! Frustrating at first, but I learned, and now I like it a lot. One thing that’s great is that I can pause something that’s playing and with just a light flick to “scroll up” I can get subtitles to come on, then just resume from the same spot. I used to have to back all the way out of what I was watching to get into the captions area of settings. So that hassle was eliminated. Also can use the one remote to control TV and AppleTV devices making for less clutter. It’s a great setup! ... show more

  • Interesting remote
We got this to replace our old Apple TV unit that was no longer sapping YouTube etc. It was very Easy to set up. The remote took a while to figure out as it has a touch pad at the top for navigation. It is a bit sensitive and still can be frustrating to use to scroll as it will jump from left to right if you are not careful scrolling up and down. The remote is also glass on top and solid black so easy to lose track of. A bright green remote cover solved that problem. ... show more

  • Great Device
Quite happy with this device. Stable, consistent WIFI connection. Great picture and sound. Remote battery lasts quite a while. Bought in July, charged for the first time in September. Remote is not as comfortable to use as Roku's remote. It is very thin and the touch area is sensitive (can be turned off or adjusted). Voice works perfectly when holding voice button down. I also found that the YouTube app was a bit weird - kind of overly sensitive to get to in-video items, i.e. "like", "subscribe". I find that I have to let the video play for a while before I am able to navigate to those items, but that's on YouTube's end. I also have yet to find a Rumble app for Apple TV. ... show more

  • Very nice set up to watch tv and other apps
It is a very well designed product. Its sleek and looks nice. Tv remote is very easy to use and voice control is excellent. I am using this to be able to replace the use of tv remote. Setting it up was super easy. Connecting hdmi to tv and plugging in the power was all that I had to do. Once you set up your apple account you can download needed apps and watch tv via them. ... show more

  • Understand The Limitations - Save Some Money
I've tried all the different streaming boxes, and AppleTV is easily the best. Not because it is incredibly technically sophisticated, but because the interface is very simple and streamlined. It doesn't try to sell you stuff constantly, it respects the fact that it is in your living room or bedroom, and like a lot of Apple stuff it just works. Apple is really good at this sort of technology as appliance stuff. Now, this is not the version to buy for your fancy home theater. It is a stripped down version that doesn't do 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos. Apple isn't paying Dolby the license fees for all that, and it has a maximum resolution of just 1080p. That is why it is a lot cheaper than the full-featured 4K version. Today, the amount of streaming content available in 4K remains pretty limited, and for a smaller TV in the bedroom you wouldn't notice the difference anyway. I have the 4k version for our main TV, and this one works just as well, same interface, same snappy performance, etc. it just doesn't have the ability to handle higher resolution streams. So this slightly de-rated version is for somebody who has an older 1080p TV, a secondary TV, a smaller TV and doesn't really need the full performance of the 4K version. Yes, you can buy a cheaper streaming box or stick, but this is the cheapest to get the premium Apple interface. ... show more

  • Good upgrade over earlier
Compared to an earlier model two or more years older, the user interface is considerably more agile with heavy thumbnails. Some apps are much less efficient than others. So, a faster device deals with such apps noticeably better. I doubt I’ve learned and mastered all of the remote’s features the previous models smaller, plastic remote lacks. I do like the extra heft and robustness. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for a household like that of Johnny Depp & Amber Heard; the hefty metal remote can be a wicked weapon. I didn’t use voice recognition/commands enough to comment on how much improved this is or not. The volume control seemed no different. Rumors say, this model is to be retired, and new ones will succeed them. They ought to be better for gaming but I’ve never done that on any model. For the faster smoother UI for poorly written Apps (heavy thumbnails), I’d get one. I expect these will have one of the new media engine cores. Apple’s new products have different processor cores to handle different workloads better than general purpose CPU/GPUs. Another core better handles voice commands. My current year, new iPhone shows all voice command stuff is far more snappy. ... show more
