Difficulty on mapping the buttons depends on the emulator. We recommend using SNES9X on PC, OpenEmu on Mac, Retropie on Respberry Pi. Q: 6. After running a configuration through retroarch, when i connect the controller to my retropie/raspberry pi 2,the pi doesn't detect it.what's wrong? • Okay for Very Casual Use, Not Great for Precision Game Play
On first use these seemed okay. They were extremely inexpensive and seemed worth it. After a weekend of heavy use with friends we discovered some definite issues with the D-pad. Just checking out a game seems to work fine. Playing some pretty competitive games (we mostly did NHL '94 and '95 as well as Super Punch Out!) we noticed the D-pad precision was a bit frustrating. Unless you are very careful with your finger placement sometimes pressing L or R will result in UP or DOWN. Normally this isn't an issue but with games that require a lot of precision it's pretty frustrating. One of the controllers seemed worse than the other but it was present on both. Again, not bad for casual game play but frustrating for precision game play. ... show more

  • Would be good for the price if I didn't have to buy them again.
I bought these for my boyfriend last year for his birthday. He ended up damaging his hands right after getting them leaving him unable to use his hands for fine motor skills at all. He finally finished with his physical rehabilitation two months ago and started using the controllers. He was so happy to get to use them and show me all the old games he used to play with his grandma when he was a child. Unfortunately, the buttons stick. It wasn't bad at first but it's gotten to the point where if he holds down the Y button to run in Mario and then hits the B button to jump the buttons just stay pushed down. He has a hard time using his hands and with the buttons sticking it sucked the joy right out of his face on his third game over in world one of Donkey Kong Country. He says we need to buy silicon pads and replace them and that might do the trick. But, I don't know how I would do it myself. And, that really shouldn't be the case considering how little use they have had. Hopefully in a few months I can buy him some new ones for Christmas. ... show more

  • Great for the price, but not as good as the original SNES controllers.
For the price, these are fantastic, however I would pay more for better quality. What I mean is that they work fine. They are original SNES controller in size, shape, and mostly feel. My wife loves playing the classic game she grew up on, but always commented that playing with a Xbox controller felt weird, so I got these for her. She says they are much more comfortable for her, and she really likes them. I gave one a spin to put it through it's paces. I didn't notice any issues with the D-Pad, with pressing, say Up, and having it register as Up & Left, or anything. It seems to be accurate and I didn't have any problems using it. The buttons also work fine, however they feel like you're pressing down on cheap plastic buttons, and don't have the same solid feel that the original SNES controllers had. I would happily pay $10 - $20 more for controllers that feels exactly like the originals in build quality. In conclusion: For the price, these are a fantastic deal as they work just fine, however they could be better. ... show more

  • Good for casual. Recommend something else for better gaming experience.
Cheapo controllers that does it's job for casual games. I didn't expect it to be accurate because it's so cheap and the dpad is not accurate. For casual games like mario, mario kart, sports games, most beam ups and puzzle games this is not a problem. Why is dpad accuracy important? Well if you play games like Contra, Street fighter and you need the directional buttons to work precisely for executing precision moves then you will find it extremely frustrating to use these controllers because they just won't do the job as well as the originals. For instance, you will find that when you press down sometimes it also makes your character move sideways or if you try to do anything that requires diagonal accuracy good luck with that one. Overall they are good cheap controllers for casual gaming ( I used it for my retropie without any problems ). They got the retro snes look down and that's about as good as I can give it in that regards. For better accuracy wired controllers without breaking the bank I would recommend the logitech F310. They also have a wireless version for more $. I have been using the logitechs instead of these for my retropie because I would like my dpads to work the way I would expect them to and not just look like snes controllers for the sake of looking like them. For this reason I can not recommend them to anyone that actually wants to get through all the levels of the games they play or if they want to play any fighting games or side scrollers that require accurate dpads. ... show more

  • Great Controller for RetroPie!!
These feel really close to the original controllers that came with the original SNES, just a teensy bit lighter. When I'm playing, I can't tell the difference between these and the originals. I'm using these with my Raspberry Pi and with my MacBook Pro. REALLY happy with my purchase and loving these controllers. ... show more

  • I bought 6 of these.
So I may have a raspberry pi addiction. Anyways I have bought 6 of these controllers, and been shipped 4 more as replacements. The button touch is ok.. I do like the Buffalo ones for that a little better, but at about $20 a pop for those... I own one for when I'm wall jumping on Super Metroid. Otherwise these are fine. Now, why the replacements? 3 died on me, but I NEXT actually contacted me based on my review and sent me 4 new ones. Now my original two are about a year old of heavy duty use and are fine. New ones are likewise holding up just fine, so I think I got ones that had something go wrong... Manufacturing, water damage at some point, or who knows what. But bottom line is they work well, and the company obviously cares when they track me down and replace them. ... show more
