I installed this over an indoor workbench and it was a nice upgrade in light output until it arced after a few hours of use and smoke vented from one of the LED panels. It then kicked the breaker on the house circuit, so apparently there's no internal fusing when it shorts. I'm glad I was home when it went.     • 4000 lumens at most, and they LEAK OIL!

Update: After a week of use, I replaced them with 3000K lamps. But the more serious issue is after they sat on a bench for a week, both lamps in the pair began leaking what appears to be a clear OIL. No clue what oil is needed for, and who knows what purity and safety goes into producing the oil used - is it silicon based dielectric, or is it the type loaded with PCBs that are hazardous and banned in places outside China? I would avoid buying these lamps at all costs. ================ Color is a softer 5,000 Kelvin. It's what they advertise, and the frosted lens does help reduce glare compared to another petal design bulb I have. The brightness falls far short of the advertised 6,000 lumens. I measured light that was equivalent to a 4000 lumen 33 watt bulb (Lamp A) that isn't nearly as directional as these. And they do not come close to a lamp rated 6000 lumen 60 watt bulb (Lamp B) that I believe. For grins, I threw in a 1500 lumen 14w lamp (Lamp C). Lamp A emits 270 degrees. 3000K Lamp B emits 180 degrees. 6000K (corrected to 4500K with a 1/4CTO gel, no less) Lamp C emits 270 degrees. 2700K These also emit 180 degrees when petals are all 'flat'. 5000K Lamp A showed 292 lux. Lamp B showed 460 lux. Lamp C showed 115 lux. -These showed 289 lux. Much less efficient compared to the other lamps. In the end, I am going with the 3000K 4060 lumen 33W bulb. The single bulb 270 degree globe fills the room better -- no dark spots around the lamp, and much less glare/hot spot effect if you happen to glance at the bulb itself. Worth noting, the 60W 6,000 lumen 6000K lamps were gawdly bright, but the glare was just too much. I tried softening the glare by adding a diffuser with an orange filter to bring the temperature down a bit. It helped, but when I screwed in the 33W globes, the contest was over (yes, the globes cost a bit more, but are well worth it IMHO). ... show more

I purchased these in the Spring for an unheated garage. They were very bright and much better than using a typical incandescent bulb but as soon as the weather got into the 30s they stopped working. Now they don't light up at all, they just flicker and glow very faintly. Today was in the low 40s and they still wouldn't light up. I threw away the packaging a long time ago but I don't remember any warnings about cold temps. ... show more

I put this light in my garage yesterday and I was blown away by the amount of light it puts out. I have lived with a simple incandescent light bulb in my garage for years that put out very little light. This light "bulb" lights up every inch of my garage...absolutely amazing and so glad I bought it. I want to replace all my garage, basement,barn lights with these lights and two outside lights because the lights are well protected from the elements!The operating costs are very low so if one gets left on it’s not a big deal ! I would highly recommend these lights to anyone needed to brighten a dark indoor location. ... show more

    • Bright, but it has issues & false material claims

I bought two of these, and the first thing I noticed was that the shade material was not aluminum as claimed. It was gray PLASTIC! I was looking for aluminum shades since it dissipates heat better, which will prolong the life of the LEDs. When I screwed it into a socket and turned it on, it was nice and bright, but I also immediately noticed the edgyness of flickering LEDs. It's obvious that the LED driver feeds 120Hz pulses to the LEDs which causes a strobing effect. A proper driver would feed the LEDs with current regulated, filtered DC, not pulsating, unfiltered, DC. For anyone using this type of flickering LED light around rotating machinery, especially those driven directly by induction motors, like many grinders, disk sanders, etc., be very careful since the the strobing effect can make it look like it's rotating in the opposite direction then it actually is. I had this happen on a MDF knife sharpening wheel, and wound up taking a chunk out of the wheel... ... show more

    • Milky white covers block too much light

They were not as bright as I was expecting from 6000 lumens in my 2 car garage, but not too bad. I decided to try removing the milky white covers, and now they're just what I was expecting, much brighter ! I think they are now the full 6000 lumens with the covers off... The quality of the light didn't really seem to be any worse with the milky white covers removed, both ways look good, just more defined shadows. The LED light holders don't look as sleek now with the LED circuit board showing, but it's perfectly fine for my garage. However, there may be some safety and durability (accidently hitting the LED chip) issues with the circuit board exposed, so proceed with caution… The milky white covers are vary opaque. I tried shining a 700 lumen flashlight through the cover, the amount of light blocked is tremendous. However, the covers do soften the light and shadows… I also opened up the big round black base to see what's inside. All that's in there are the wires that connect the lights to each other and socket, it's otherwise a big empty space. Regarding 6000 lumens: before this purchase, I was wondering if 6000 would be too much. Now that I have seen how it looks, I’m thinking I may also purchase an 8000 or 10,000 lumen light to really light things up! ... show more
