    • Buying a different type
The little flags is fine, however, the telescopic pole is not good. Installed on the boat and took it out foe the first time and the clips on the pole that you can attach the flag to, broke off. I'm not impressed at all. The mount is actually pretty decent.

I bought this flag pole and holder for my old bass boat because I am an American and proud of it! The holder is solid, the flag pole is a little questionable, but reasonable for the price.

    • You'll need your own flags
First off, not only are the flags flimsy nylon and poorly stitched (The stitches look like 1/4" long basting in addition to being raggedy. One of the ends is already unraveling.), the skier flag--which is the reason I ordered--this is not the legally required size in the U.S. It's not a minimum of 12" on each side. While it's 18.5" long, it's only 11.5" tall. If it wasn't a legal requirement, I wouldn't care. IL requires the flag out while you're towing skiers, so I can't image the wind won't tear the hems out. The only good thing about the flags is they have metal grommets so they will resist ripping off the pole. The hardware, however, is mostly good. The adjustable clamps look sturdy and have a "rubber" lining so they shouldn't slip when attached to the boat rail. The bottom of the pole also has a "rubber" (I don't really know what the material is.) coating so it will fit tightly in the mount. The telescoping pole extends from about 10" to about 50". They should hold up unless you're in gale force winds with a huge, heavy flag. I do worry that because the telescoping pole is held extended by friction and I'm not seeing what kind of metal it's made from and if they will rust or otherwise become inoperable. The flag clips are fine, but they are attached with fairly light gauge metal triangles, especially the top one. The top one is secured to the top of the pole, but the bottom is free-moving, so I'm going to have to finagle a rubber stopper or something so it doesn't blow up to the top of the pole. Basically a great concept, decent design, could use some minor improvements, but, oh those flags... ... show more

    • Clamps are great, the pole could be stronger
This is a nice set but I'm not real confident that the pole would stand up to high speed or winds. It's like a collapsible antena style, it comes with flags and hooks, the flags get the message out but aren't the highest quality. The benefit to this kind of pole is how easy it is to put up and take down, as well as being able to clamp onto different bases. This can be clamped onto a porch rail, the kids wooden playset, and possibly onto a bike. It would also make a good pole, without the clamps, to take to a parade or a rally so you could put it up or down easy in a crowd and not get tired holding it. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to use it for an upcoming road rally, I wanted to clamp it to my luggage rack on top of my van. The clamps would work great, just don't think the pole would. I know that's not the advertised use for this, and I'm not complaining about it, the reason I docked a star is because the pole just might be needed for its intended purpose on a boat and not be strong enough for long enough. But I think we can figure out a better pole and mount it to the clamps and it will work great. It's not that easy to find clamps to work on odd shapes, but these do a good job, so for that versatility it's a 5 star product, but the pole quality makes my overall a 4 - 4.5 star.
