    • Great old school brakes!

These are your basic side pull brakes, but great quality and worked better than expected. Installed as rear brake for my 5 year olds bike. Bike came with coaster brakes and just the front hand brake which was ok, but I really wanted him to learn to use rear hand brake. Cable was really long, which is great so you can cut to perfect length. Some people complained about the brake pads. I’m not sure if they prepped them correctly, but I did and the brakes worked TOO well. My 5 year olds was locking up rear wheel without any problem. Which really upset him because he doesn’t want to wear out the tire. So here’s a tip for those who don’t know. To properly prep brake pads, you have to remove the pads from the caliper and rub them on concrete. Either a sidewalk or driveway. Not a lot, just a couple times to get the glaze off and have a rough surface. You can also use course sand paper, but concrete is my preference. Reinstall, adjust as needed and there you go. This goes for just about any brake pad. Even a good idea every once in a while while doing routine maintenance. ... show more

First of all, they look really good. I bought silver & installed them on a black BMX bike. Improved the bike's look 100% Secondly, the brake lever has very little up and down play in it. Not like the floppy Tektro levers that originally came with the bike. Really, really appreciated this improvement in my bike's functionality. Thirdly, the pads are well broken in by now (two months since installation) and they still don't stop the bike as well as I would like. Probably should buy some better pads. ... show more

I needed to add a front brake to my beach klunker and this is worth the money. I prefer moto style on the left. Took some fiddling and adjusting to get it to clear the front fender w/o dragging but not the brakes fault. Added a pic with it installed to show it works with the fender. When I ditch the coaster brake I'll add this same brake in the rear. ... show more

On the fence whether these are 3 or 4 stars. Looks the part, but clearly a bit more flimsy than the new repop Dia Compes... But these are half the price. As I was writing this decided to go 3 star because the lever is poorly designed and have to use it upside down on the left side which is an unfortunate situation because they provide a front or rear bolt. ... show more

Upgrading my sons bmx bike, my first thought was odyssey. Was pleased to find this set for cheap. Install was okay. I mounted it custom located. The cable however was pretty crap. I used a cable cutter and it still instantly frayed a couple strands which will always end up stuck inside the cable sleeve leaving your lever pull hard and the cable won't seat properly. Whatever cable they gave me sucks. Don't know if I got a dud, but the cable wasn't worthy of being paired with odyssey. ... show more
