My youngest son is a culinary student and I got this for some food styling we're working on for his online portfolio. It's crystal clear, made of substantial glass, is a very generous size, and is priced about average based on those qualities. I was really impressed with how securely and thoughtfully the packaging is designed. It photographs beautifully and would make a lovely gift for the person on your list that makes the best banana pudding. We like and recommend. *The pictures on the box are a little pixelated, so if you're extremely picky about boxes you'll gift, you might want a bag or just a big bow for this. ... show more

What a gorgeous trifle dish! Looks like delicate and airy ... but has a surprisingly substantial feel to it. Heavy, with a graceful flare to the bowl and a sturdy stem base. The glass is flawless, free from distortion or bubbles. The rim is polished smooth to the touch. A classic, timeless design. It came SO well packaged (seriously, I had to cut it from the carton), but in pristine condition. I love the generous size ... many of my recipes are old, hand-me-downs and made to feed a crew. It is a pleasant surprise when I can get an entire batch in a single serving piece. I adore the look of layered salads in trifle dishes ... so the bigger the better. The bowl is quite lovely, but after one use, it chipped twice. I’d be afraid to transport anywhere, as this happened just in my home. If you’re good with handling delicate items, it’ll probably work well for you.

    • Good looking, but glass on top edge needs to be rounded and smoothed
The first thing about this was getting it out of the box. Somehow, whether by design, or accident, the tape for the styrofoam was stuck to the box in a couple of places, so I was unable to remove the styrofoam, and therefore the bowl, without tearing the box and styrofoam apart, cutting the tape and finally being able to get the bowl out. This left a mess of styrofoam pieces everywhere, which was a pain to then clean. After all that, I looked over the bowl. It came in one piece with no cracks or chips, and is a good size for trifles. The glass is very clear, so a trifle will look pretty inside, which is good when you want something to be pretty for presentation. My only ding is the top edges are a bit sharp; not sharp enough to cut someone, they're just not rounded off smoothly as you'd expect for a bowl at this price point. The bottom edge of the pedestal is nice and smooth and rounded off-I don't know why the top wasn't. I honestly don't know if this one got missed somehow, or if the entire line is made this way, but they do need to check on, and fix that small issue. It's on the larger size as far as trifle bowls go, which is great when you have a gathering for a summer barbecue, Christmas party, and similar. Overall, this is a decent trifle bowl, which would be a really nice trifle bowl if the top edges were rounded off. ... show more

I'm almost 60 years old, and I've never made a trifle. But I do spend a ton of time in the kitchen, and I've always wanted to. So in a bit of indulgence, I got myself this bowl. It's lovely, and arrived in beautiful box and styrofoam so there was no chance of it breaking in shipping. Hurrah! That's why I think it would make a great gift for someone you know who loves to cook or entertain. Shower or wedding gift, or even for a young adult with a penchant for making delicious things who is just moving into their own place. Maybe not a college student, but a young adult in their first apartment or house. It's a lovely thing. A good size. Fun to have around even if you don't make trifles. Would make a good 7 layer salad, or even a green salad, as the clear item means you can see how gorgeous those veggies look inside. I love it. A+ ... show more
