  • Exceeds Our Expectations
Color: Gray Size: 10'×12' Arc Roof
Living in MN, we can comfortably relax outdoors from May - Oct, give or take, which is also Mosquito Season. Winters deliver about 48" of snow, occasionally 12" at a time. Given that, we wanted to use our yard with the option of privacy, a little protection from the insects, in something that could handle snow. So we looked at hundreds of gazebos online and a few more at local retailers. In settling on this one, we were attracted by the curved steel roof, both for snow removal and the distinctive look of it. The dual track privacy/bug nets are common among gazebos but a must for us. And we wanted a kit we could build ourselves. Before it arrived, we hired a contractor to erect a platform, and that was critical, as it turned out, because the tight construction allowed virtually no room for error. The surface had to be dead level so the uprights were plumb allowing the roof panels to slide in snugly. Plus, the pre-drilled holes would not accept the steel bolts unless the pieces fit together perfectly. I would say it all went per the plan. It looks great and offers enough room for 4 chairs and a fire table. A couple of caveats. The instructions are adequate but could definitely use a video in which someone assembles it step-by-step. (I wish I had made such a video but did not.) In addition, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to construct the roof alone. You do not need 4 people, but with 4, this could be done in a weekend. Took me about 40 hours, with help from others here and there. The instructions do not mention grounding the gazebo, so we added that. Finally, we added weight to the uprights with pea gravel for greater stability. If you do this, do it before you add the roof. All in, it's a lovely addition to our yard. Time will tell if it holds up to the harsh weather, but so far, it truly exceeds our expectations. March 23, 2023 Status Update After a hard, snowy MN winter, spring is in the air, and our gazebo has survived. Perhaps, it has even thrived. We opted to shut it down in early November. Even with the sides zipped in place, the gazebo has no ability to retain heat. With temperatures dipping down below freezing and then below zero (F), and the snow piling on and around it, we did not use it at all after Halloween. The good news is it held up to the great weight of heavy snowfalls and arctic windstorms just fine. Now, we're looking forward to daily use again in a few more weeks, certainly by May 1, give or take. It still looks like new after 5 months in the freezer! ... show more

  • Sturdy and Affordable
Color: Brown Size: 10'×14'
We had a nice pop up canopy on our deck that lasted a year before the fabric ripped, so we wanted a more permanent solution to cover our deck furniture. I found this gazebo and thought it would do the job. So far, so good! Assembly was a bit lengthy and kinda sketchy. Took about 16 hours total, and I had a friend help for about 10 hours of that. The upper roof panels kept slipping out before I could get the edges on, almost sliced my buddy that was helping me. I used electrical tape to hold the panels in place until I could get the edge on. Speaking of roof panels, SKIP THE CLIPS. Like others have said the z clips are mostly useless and only slow you down. I used a mix of 1/4 inch grade 5 machine screws/nuts, 2.5 inch length, and 1/4 inch lag screws, 2.5 unch length, with scrap pressure treated 2x6 wood pieces under the deck boards for extra hold. It seems really sturdy but only time will tell. I had some warping on the bug net for the upper roof ventilation, just used gorilla tape to help hold it down per advice from another review. It's not gonna be 100% bug proof but the curtains are a nice addition. My only co.plaint is even the slightest breeze makes the fabric blow into the space. I am going to look into making a solution to secure the center of each wall to the deck railing when the fabric is zipped. All in all, a great value. Something like this made custom for the deck would probably cost $10k+. You can't beat this price and I'm excited to have this amazing outdoor space just in time for summer. ... show more

  • Overall a solid buy
Color: Wood-looking Size: 12'×14' Gable Roof
TL;DR: It's a good buy overall after shopping around. Instructions could be better but gets the job done. The roof panel installation process is the hardest part, looks good and is sturdy when complete. I shopped these for a long time before settling on this one. Really wanted a wooden one, however you're looking at 2x the price at least. I went with this one due to being in a higher wind area and the roof panels are bolted down on this 12x14 model. It arrived a couple days earlier than anticipated and we received it with no damage at all. It's packaged well, lots of foam wrapping the individual parts which is good and bad... well protected but lots of garbage to throw away. the first part of the assembly is easy and pretty straightforward, basically just assembling the posts/beams in the main structure. You then move along to assembling the roof structure/bracing. Again pretty straightforward although at that point you're on ladders. I'd advise not tightening all the roof bracing bits down until the final step, putting the roof panels on can be frustrating and a bit stupid, so it helps to have a bit of play in those bracing supports. We spent A LOT of time making sure the posts were plumb, the beams were level, and the frame was square before we bolted it down on the deck where we wanted it, and many of the roof panel bolt holes just didn't line up like they were supposed to, many of them were 1/8-1/4" off. I'm convinced that the end pieces of the roofing panels were slightly mis-drilled, and the remainder of the roof panels will get more and more out of line as you progress, since the end panel pieces act as the "cornerstones" essentially. Correcting (re-drilling) the end panel bolt holes position ever so slightly enabled all the remaining pieces to line up perfectly. On the roofing panels, they give you a huge bag of these plastic spacer clip things that are supposed to go on the top edge of the panel before you slide it up into place. Immediately throw those away unless you want the roof assembly to take 3x longer. They just absolutely do not stay in place no matter what you do, and when they inevitably come slightly un-clipped from the panel upon putting them in place it will prevent the panel from being fully seated in the roof beam, so you're just repeatedly installing and removing panels just trying to get these dumb clips in place. We gave up after the second panel and enjoyed throwing the bag of remaining clips across the yard very much. It's just fine without them and a much easier assembly by far. The roof trim pieces tie it together nicely when its all done and it looks great bolted down on the deck with nice stainless lag bolts we purchased separately. Even in our high wind area (60+mph periodically) I don't see it going anywhere besides maybe a bit of wiggling from the frame/posts. Considering the price point I'm happy with it overall. It took myself and my 60yr old father 2 days to build ... show more
