  • Makes a great cup of rich coffee
I bought this to replace my cuisinart. My coffee maker stopped working so I bought the newest repl of cuisinart and their coffee maker made a watered down version of coffee. I'm kind of a coffee snob so I'm surprised that this is better than a known American brand. This coffee maker only downside is the hopper gets stuck very often I removed the guard inside the hopper and solved this engineering oversight. They could have designed the hopper guard with a 16th of an inch more clearance and this shouldn't be a problem ... show more

  • Fantastic coffee, some minor drawbacks
I was looking for a coffeemaker for my office so I'm not forced to use the Keurig. I wanted a machine with a burr grinder and a timer. This Gevi is what I decided on and if you're looking for similar qualities I recommend this machine. So, first let me say that when you get your settings dialed in this makes the best cup of coffee I've ever had from a drip machine. There are lots of settings to play with so finding your ideal cup can take some time. Here is what I use: - no paper filter (this affected the flavor a lot, surprisingly. The basket's mesh is tight enough that you don't need a separate filter). - medium brew strength - grind setting on second largest bean image (there are lots of detents, so not the second notch on the wheel but the second-largest bean image) - same amount of water as the number for the amount of coffee ground - light-medium roast beans With all that said, there are some minor issues that keep it from being a 5* product. - grinder is very loud. Definitely noticeable from 2 offices down from mine. And it grinds for longer than you might expect - the mechanism that lets the grounds fall into the brew basket is a bit inaccurate and you'll get some grounds scattered around the machine. Not a lot but it's noticeable. - The bean hopper is right above the brew basket, and you don't want steam from the hot grounds clogging up the grinder. After brewing, I push the button to open the brew basket nook and leave it ajar. Perfectly normal for machines in this range, you have to spend more to get a more separated bean hopper. - No insulated carafe. Again, with all the other features of this machine it's understandable. - Figuring out how to set the timer can be a bit tricky. Don't press the On / Off button during this process or you'll start a pot. Hold down the Program button to set the desired time to brew and press it again to turn on the timer. I would definitely buy this machine again, the drawbacks are, for me, very minor. ... show more

  • Pause n serve needs work
The pause n serve needs work. I think it is the carafe, never fails drips end up on the heating plate.

  • Great coffeemaker so far
I've been using grind-and-brew coffeemaker's for many years now and this so far is leaps and bounds better than the last one I was using. There are sever big plusses for this machine: 1) It's a burr grinder which produces much more consistent grounds than a blade grinder. 2) The grinder sits directly above the filter, so there are no sideways chutes to clean out like my previous machine had. 3) It uses #4 Cone filters which I have always found to produce a stronger more flavorful coffee than the big round flat-bottomed filters. This coffeemaker makes much stronger and more flavorful coffee than my previous coffeemaker did, even using less beans. As much as I like this coffee maker, it is not without it's faults, although for me they are not deal-breakers. Because the grinder sits over the filter, the machine it taller than many other, and doesn't fit underneath my overhead cupboard like previous machines did. Fortunately my counter is deep enough that I can still place it on my kitchen counter and keep coffee beans and filters behind it. The water reservoir is rather narrow and spans the back of the machine so it can be a bit difficult to fill. I've found it easiest to use a large water pitcher and fill the tank using the guidelines on the side of the appliance. The instructions say to add fresh beans to the hopper and clean it out after every use, which defeats the putpose of having a programmable machine that will automatically start, grind beans and brew coffee in the morning. I leave a full hopper of beans in the machine overnight every night and have not had any problems. I have only had this coffee maker for a month now, so I don't know how long-lasting it will be, but so far it has been excellent and I would highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Good Coffee maker. Could use some design changes
Overall, a good to great coffee maker. I've downgraded my rating due to recent issues. CONS: 1)As many of the reviewers have mentioned, The water tank is more difficult to fill versus other units I have owned. The Gevi is tall and must be pulled out to fill the water reservoir. 2) Cleaning involves removing & cleaning 2 parts, but the cone basket makes more flavorful coffee than the basket filters. Basket seems flimsy, but has held up well, so far 3)Controls are not intuitive. Once you figure the sequence of button pressing, it is fine. 4)** Worked flawlessly for 2 times a week for 8 months, then did the "2 cup dance" that many other reviewers spoke of. We tried several button sequences, without success, thinking that something had changed with the settings. Finally, I ran two 4 cup reservoirs of white vinegar & rinsed with two full reservoirs of water. The unit has worked fine since then. Just that we have owned a Cuisinart, Melita(my favorite) & Krups previously, and all worked for years before they needed to be unclogged, or stopped working. CLR will work for tougher clogs...just rinse it 3-4 times. PROS: 1) Bur grinder and straight grounds path are great. The Krups chute is always clogging, especially with oiler coffees 2) warmer stays on longer than most 3) Makes a super cup of coffee when working. Grinder is quieter than most other makes. ... show more
