  • Throaty in the City, Quiet on the Highway
Edit: After about 500 miles with the new exhaust, I feel like the exhaust has broken in and become quieter at low RPM's. Have raised my 4 star rating to 5 star for this. Exhaust still sounds amazing. Edit #2: After another few thousand miles, I'm just in love with this exhaust. The tone reminds me of newer Civic SI's, and is throaty in the city, dead quiet on the highway. Gas mileage remains unchanged. Low RPM Drone is almost extinct. Probably due to break in. I don't dread getting in my car for a drive anymore (with the old N1 exhaust) - best of performance, throaty sound, and no highway drone. Highly recommend. Welds are also holding up very well and the pesky exhaust leak with the N1 and ebay headers is now gone finally! No more CO and NOx inside the car. As a car person, I love tinkering around with my vehicles. I do the typical upgrades (intake, headers, exhaust), so this was on the list. I used to have an N1 style Ebay exhaust. Basically, it was a full 2.5" setup with a can muffler. It was designed for maximum noise and attention. I didn't mind it so much on the streets, but on the freeway, anything above 65 mph was just a deafening drone. I took a 2500 mile road trip and it was very loud and annoying. After the trip, I sold that exhaust and bought this one as a replacement. Checking out the forums and other people who had had them, they claimed this is SI civic quiet. So, I decided to give this a shot since it was only $230 shipped and has a lifetime warranty attached from Yonaka. The parts are shiny and the welds all appear to be decent quality. The only complaint is that some of the flanges did not align with the pipe, so there was a slight gap looking inside the tube between the flange and the piping. Its not something that affects performance or installation or noise, but it showed the difference between a high dollar exhaust and this one. The gaskets were fair quality, nothing fancy. Bolts were mismatched 5/8" bolts with 14mm nuts. The driving experience: When comparing the Yonaka to the N1 exhaust, there is a completely different noise. At idle, they are both dead silent. The N1 progressively increases in deep noise through the rev band and is very deafening at redline. This is something you'd want if you need to be heard from 1/2 mile or further away. Upon liftoff from the gas pedal, the exhaust emits an almost equal drone noise that is loud and pointless. Comparing this to the Yonaka is worlds different. The Yonaka has a deep bass hum up to about 2k rpm. It is very deep, although not annoyingly loud. I guess it is something to get used to. It isn't dead silent like a stock exhaust. I find it a slightly annoying, especially driving around the city. However, anything above 2k rpm and the exhaust gets quieter. I know this seems counter intuitive, but trust me on this. It is dead silent on the freeway. My intake makes more noise than the exhaust does at 100 mph. At 100 mph, you will get a ticket for the N1 exhaust because the cop will see you. You will only get a ticket with the Yonaka exhaust if the cop sees you doing the same 100 mph. So, overall, my feelings are the following. The Yonaka exhaust is a great exhaust in terms of quality and warranty. Be warned that you have to pay return shipping if you do decide to get something covered. The welds are good and at least for my 1998 Civic EX, everything bolted up correctly and easily. The drone at under 2000 rpm is a bit annoying but not unlivable. I'm not sure why they designed it this way, but I suppose it gives some noise to an otherwise quiet exhaust. Above 2000 rpm, it is dead silent and you will just hear engine or intake. Freeway driving is very nice now and I don't have the typical N1 drone. The fit and finish of the tip is not "ricey" like the typical N1 style mufflers. It actually looks a bit like a stock 2008 civic SI exhaust. Although the description says 4.25", that is the outside diameter at the widest point. The actual inner diameter is closer to 3-3.5", just slightly bigger than the 2.5" tubing. It reminds me of the exhaust tips that people put on trucks. Very sensible. Its a great exhaust in terms of flow, design, and low noise. I dock it one star for the low RPM drone, but otherwise it is a very nice upgrade from an N1 exhaust or stock. ... show more

  • Amazing system regardless of price.
So let me start by saying I am very pleased thus far. This is the 3rd exhaust system I have had on my 2000 Civic EX. They are normally either too loud or just don't fit well. This system fits great and sounds amazing. The only issue I had was worth the aftermarket header or Cat that I got from a different vender. One of them or the combo was 2 inches short so I had to make an extention on my cat bit in the end it was a purchase well worth it. The only thing I wish was different at this time was it took a while to get across the border from Canada. I also have done lengthy research and I believe the seller is a store front for the manufacturer. The end product is clean, Welds are smooth and fit is second to none. I get no drone at all and just enough growl when I want it. A true Thank you ... show more

  • A step above but drags EVERYWHERE
So I've got a few thousand miles on it so far and first impressions are it is very shiny and easy to install and not raspy like like the ricer mufflers it has a deep tone which you can hear but you can still have a conversation whole driving without yelling I do wish the exhaust tip was smaller as this is my work car nothing fancy as for driving there resonator finds every crown our high spot in the road and sometimes drags in deep potholes I was sure I was going to drag a hole in it but so far it's holding up. I have since learnt how to change how I drive to avoid dragging as much but it's unavoidable at times. I've been debating on some alterations to raise it but haven't got account to it yet they do include a lot of swag in the box like hats, shirts, stickers, and a lanyard which is some cool stuff however my son took most of it lol so would I buy it again absolutely very good quality thank you ... show more

  • Good item.... poor resonator
Decently made, easy to install. Sound is very good. Fairly quiet and a little deeper sound than stock. Good price for what you get. After about 5k miles on the exhaust noticed a rattling noise and isolated it to the resonator. Decided to order a new one, but about 5k miles later and the rattle is back. This is the only weak point in the exhaust that i've seen, resonator isn't made very well and apparently breaks apart and rattles internally. ... show more

  • Bang for your banger
Great exhaust. It sounds great. Not like the ebay fart cans. It has a nice deep sound that does not drone on the highway. The resonator does sit lower than stock. You will scrape it if you are not careful. I knock a star off because of that. Besides the ground clearance, you cannot beat this exhaust for the money. ... show more

  • Worth it
Great exhaust for the price. A friend of mine also has this exhaust in his integra. It’s been a few years n he still loves it. Just installed mine about 1000 miles ago. I have a 1320 4-1 header and originally used the stock cat as well but felt it was still quiet n being restricted. I Now have a test pipe installed and I’m pleased with it. Just sits lower than stock exhaust but you can always buy new hangers. The tip fits perfect inside the exhaust cut out btw. Coming from a place where cops hate loud Hondas I’ve never been pulled over. (yet) produces a nice deep tone cruising around and gives a good BWAHHH when vtec is engaged. Overall worth the money also came with a shirt, hat, 2 stickers, and a lanyard. Perfect gear to look like a squid who purchased his (or her) first car part. ... show more
