Well, to the point: 1. The tooth that folds out doesn't seem to collapse all the way into the handle... that's a strange design, and less compact than I expected. 2. The stamped steel "tooth" and the end of the handle are a bit rough, I'd like them smoothed out/sanded a bit more. 3. The tool is spring loaded to LOCK the tool open, but theres' no spring to assist with opening. Seems a bit hoaky, would be much nicer if there was a spring assist or even a button-push opening like a switch blade. 4. The included a seat-belt cutter in the end of the tool, but no ceramic-carbine point for an emergency window break? How can you fix it? 1) A Dremel can lengthen that slot on the side (mark it with a Sharpie, punch it, then drill the end you want, only a 1/4" or so more is plenty to get full collapse). Dremmel it and smooth the edges. 2) A small Dremel cut-off wheel can remove the plastic inside the handle that prevents the tooth from folding down completely. 3) It's also pretty easy to fill the handle and tooth with epoxy (just tape it off and hold in a vice at the angle you need to do the tooth in 1 pour). This helps to make it more substantial, though probably unnecessary. This may be the time to imbed some tritium vials for night glow? I dunno, you could even find a LED flashlight to fit in the handle for storage in the car if you wanted. 4) A screw in window break is also pretty easy to install in the end if you just drill a hole... if you can source one. Is it perfect? no. Is it reasonably good and built tough? absolutely. The nice part is that a little time at the workbench makes it 100% more functional and ergonomic. ... show more

Seems pretty well made, but I found it was a bit narrow for my Ford Ranger (white vehicle), and too wide for my Ford Escape (blue vehicle). I got a narrower product for my Escape, and kept this for my Ranger. It wobbles a little in my Ranger since there's a bit of wiggle room. But it will do the job. It's well made. ... show more

I was definitely skeptical that such a small and simple device could be so helpful. But now I know better... this is great! It's small and compact, it folds and unfolds easily, it fits into the door latch easily, and it provides just what we need to easily exit the car seat with safety. --- MY ONE COMPLAINT: The metal edges are rough and sharp. It could cut you if you're not careful. (I'm not talking about the recessed seat-belt cutter.) The metal edges are unfinished and could possibly hurt someone. --- My husband was able to remedy this by using an ordinary metal file and mini-grinder tool to smooth off the rough edges. But for the bargain price, I guess I can't complain too much. This item gets 4.5 stars from me, but rounded-up to 5-stars. ... show more

While this product is designed for those who need assistance getting out of their car, this also has another benefit. I got this because when I get out of the car I sometimes put too much pressure on the left side of the seat cushion which eventually causes the fabric to come apart. Helpful for elderly but the sharp pointed thing is not safe. Better if it pushed back more during retract or not make it pointed as it does not have to be pointed when putting inside brace of the car. It just has to be stable enough to support the weight of an elderly. Will try to trim the sharp part with the hopes to improve this product to be more elderly friendly. ... show more
