The XTOOL D8BT scanning tool is feature rich and more than just a scan tool. Its database of vehicles covers just about every modern car on the road today, and stays current with automatic updates if you choose that setting. You can read and reset fault codes, test components, and even customize many settings in late model cars. If you're a DIY'er, shade-tree mechanic, or even a master tech, this tool is invaluable. With other scan tools, reading fault codes is pretty standard, and cheaper options certainly exist that do a fine job. However, with this being an Android based tablet computer, the fault codes are not only displayed, but clicking the links brings you to online resources that explain the typical causes and repairs needed in plain language. This is invaluable, even if you decide to bring the car in for professional repairs, to avoid any surprise costs or unscrupulous mechanics. Additionally, the tool uses 2-way communication to access a variety of maintenance functions. On my BMW, replacing the battery requires registration with the ECU so that the system charges the battery appropriately. This tool performs that function, whereas in the past I needed a trip to the dealership, incurring a 1 hour labor charge. Likewise, when bleeding brake fluid, you can access the ABS system for a full flush. It's the same with cycling water pumps, radiator fans, interior electronics... Virtually any ECU controlled function in your car is accessible for diagnostics using this tool. Being a tablet design, the system is pretty rugged with a protective casing that is easy to hold securely. The back features a flip-out plastic stand to prop the device up on a dashboard or console. The bluetooth unit that I purchased comes with a transmitter that plugs into the OBD II port and wirelessly syncs to the device (powered thru the port - no batteries needed). The battery life on the tablet will run down after several straight hours of use, but a charger is provided, along with a handy protective plastic case. While the cost of this tool may make it seem like a luxury item, I can say that I've already recouped 75% of the investment in the first month of using it, just from avoiding dealerships and pro service. The tool's many features make it as versatile and indispensable as any quality set of wrenches. And, I know that the device will work on any car that I own in the future.     • The D8W saved me lots of money and time!
I love how easy and straightforward this tool is to use. I bought it to install a PMI on my Ford Flex and it worked great, paid for itself with that alone! Now I’m using it on my other vehicles and it’s just as good. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bi-directional scanner!

I wanted a tool that would let me not only scan and analyze literally EVERYTHING in our vehicles, present and future, but would also allow me to change features, add new stuff, and make a service record for each one - and this tool does all that. But first, a word about something VERY important: Customer support and communications. Before I bought from this company, I looked at dozens of reviews for this and other companies, and it seemed as though the negative comments centered around poor or no customer service. Not so with XTool. They've answered every question almost immediately, many on the same day. I sent them the VIN numbers for all of our vehicles, ranging from Dodge to Jeep to Hyundai. They verified that this tool would work with them and they did it right away. I've already received over 100 free software updates, many for American made cars. And they just keep coming. Dealer service mode? No problem. The D8BT will let you perform service tests that you thought only a dealership could. I immediately checked/recalibrated the HVAC door actuators, tested the audio system, and changed several settings in the ECU to change things that I found irritating before. Check out some of the pictures. The information given on some of these screens is stuff that normally requires very expensive test equipment to obtain, and a lot of time to connect the equipment. If you're a small shop or backyard mechanic, this tool will be gold. I've already used this to locate and correct issues with three of our vehicles, and some with friends' cars also. I have yet to experience a rude surprise. A couple points: If a control module for a vehicle that you're working on doesn't support a particular Special Function, you can't change it. You'll get a screen that says "The selected Function is not supported". Also, American made vehicles won't let you disable the engine stop-start feature, although many foreign cars will. However -- it DOES recognize the aftermarket MPC Remote Start and the PAC aftermarket backup camera systems that I bought here on Amazon. That's a pleasant surprise. They both work great so I didn't need to change anything, but it's nice to know that they're "in the loop", should it become necessary. I haven't had a single instance where the Bluetooth connection was glitchy, or the D8BT failed to auto-identify a vehicle automatically. So I'm happy! My only complaint it with the case. The unit is held in place with Velcro straps under foam, which doesn't last long. I'm working on a solution for this. There's a full 16 pin OBD2 male to female extension flat ribbon cable sold here on Amazon that works great with the Bluetooth dongle supplied with the D8BT. It makes reaching hard to reach or "backwards" ports easier to connect to. UPDATE (2.23.23): I just made a key for my son's 2016 Jeep Cherokee. Boy, was that easy! It took all of 2 minutes. All key functions work perfectly, including the remote start. That saved me about $200 in dealer's fees. ... show more

    • Great Scanner Tool and Excellent Customer Service!
This tool is right for you if you have a Honda Accord cylinder 2,3, and a random misfire. My car only runs 20 mph max after I replaced a crankshaft sensor. So, I bought this helpful tool to help the crankshaft relearn. Everything worked great after I relearned the crankshaft with this tool. I also use this tool to reset the oil life and copy car keys as well. Phoebe, the customer service representative, is the best. Bought this on black Friday sales was really unsure which scan tool to purchase but after hours of watching videos, reading reviews, and researching all my options I ended up pulling the trigger on this one and couldn't be more happy.
