Description

Most cymbals on the market today have Turkish or European influence. However, WUHAN has defined the Oriental sound for centuries. To better understand their popularity, let's look at Wuhan's history and some of the products they offer. For over 1900 years Wuhan has made cast, hand-hammered cymbals in China. In fact, the Chinese have been credited with inventing the cymbal for use as a musical instrument. Wuhan is well known for their china and gong cymbals. However many people don't realize that they also produce a line of "western" style cymbals. In fact, Universal Percussion, Inc. who owns Wuhan contributed to the creation of an excellent line of professional quality cymbals that include a traditional, rock, and bright series.     • LOUD LOUD LOUD LOUD and AWESOMELY PERFECT SOUNDING china cymbal
EASILY the best sounding china cymbal brand out there, and the most affordable. Group my comments along with all the rest of the similar ones found in the other reviews. That alone speaks volumes for the sound of this cymbal. I don't think it's a coincidence that the best sounding china cymbals come from China, which is kind of amusing. There's one downside to this cymbal and that is it's L O U D!!!!!!!!!! The first time I hit it it was instant ringing ears...for real. My old Paiste china was louder than all my other cymbals, but this one is 5 times as loud and rips at your ear drums giving you instant tinnitus. To me it sounds like it's mounted directly on my head and focused directly into my ear. I had to use my VF isolation headphones as "hearing protection" since purchasing it, and that's no joke. I don't hit any of my cymbals overly hard, and it looks like I'll need to get used going extra light on this one. I have it positioned so it's both at the proper angle but out of the "sweet spot" as much as possible as far as the proper striking point goes. Hopefully you guys/gals know what I'm trying to say. Maybe some painters tape dampening or a moon gel near the center will help. Oh well, it's WELL worth it for the awesome and PROPER "PAHHH" sound this thing makes. If I could change anything other than the loudness of this cymbal, it's that Wuhan would spend the extra fricken 25 cents on printing the logo on BOTH sides of the cymbal. IDK, it just bugs me, and it's certainly a bit of a missed opportunity as far as brand ID/advertising goes. I may have to look into Wuihan's other B20 bronze alloy offerings. It's the same alloy as many of Zildjian, Sabian and Meinl's higher end cymbals. The rest of my cymbals, Paiste PST 5's are of their CuSn8 alloy, AKA B8. Though the PST5's sound VERY nice for the price, they're DISTINCTLY different from the more musical CuSn20/B20 alloy used in higher end cymbals, the latter being FAR more musically pleasing to my ear anyway. The CuSn8/B8 alloy tends to sound more "clanky" and cheap sounding IMO. I think as drummers we all know that being frugal on the drums usually works out, while being frugal on the cymbals usually leads to buying cymbals twice....hence why they cost so much to begin with. "Buy Once, Cry Once". It's a good way to look at many purchases. ... show more

I have had this cymbal for 8 months now, and it is one of my favorite cymbals I own, out of the 10 or so on my kit. As other reviewers have stated, it cuts through very well on the attack, then drops out soon after. I prefer this type of sound for the music I play, where I don't want one cymbal drowning out the next one. It is very loud, but you can always hit it less hard if you want it to be quieter. It actually sounds great as a china-ride when I hit it lightly. It holds up well to getting thrashed. It has a quintessential china sound to it. It looks beautiful too. I did a lot of research before purchasing this, where I regularly saw other cymbals that were twice, three times the price, which sound worse. As far as I could find, this is the best cymbal at this price, by far. Wuhan is amazing. It also pairs up nicely with the 12" china as complementary sounds, if you're into having two chinas and are on a budget. ... show more

    • What a cymbal!
This china is fantastic! After reading all sorts of great reviews and hearing so many good things about Wuhan's chinas, I decided to to try one out myself: i am just as impressed as anyone else. This thing is SO loud and just cuts through everything. It has a perfect trashy quality and sounds exactly how I want a china to sound. Just like almost any other review you will stumble upon, I can say that this thing is a killer deal for the price! I guess the only thing I don't like on this china is the traditional bell, but really that's only because i won't be able to easily stack it with anything once it gets super beat up and cracked after a long time... But that's not even worth taking the rating down! If you want a great quality china, go with one of these bad boys. ... show more

    • Pretty great! Much louder and lower toned than I expected though.
I did end up having to drill holes in the cymbal to lighten up the tone but overall great cymbal! It's nice and washy/trashy sounding and when I put an 8" splash on it, it makes a great stack. Good buy, but looking back, I think the 16" would have worked better for the sound I wanted.

Well this china is loud as hell. I have had to use ear protection when im gonna use it. I have tried a 300 dollar china and this sojnd ssoooo much better than that other on i wouldnt bother recording with this its simply amazing i would love to get an endorsement with wuhan i mean ive tried my music schools zildjian chmbals (k costom and a costom) and wuhan chmbals sound more of what a cymbal should sound like. ... show more

Great buy right here.! I recently put up a review for a 14 inch Wuhan Chin, and now for the 18 inch. Right there should notice i bought myself a second Wuhan Chine. :) From my other review i've said that the 14 inch sounds amazing. And so does the 18 inch. I gotta say these are my favorite china cymbals. They are cheap in price and sound like the real deal. I find no point in now going out and buying those more expensive chine cymbals. Yes u can take the chance in cracking these things easier or more quickly but for the price who really cares. Plus if u know how to properly hit a cymbal it should last u a long time. I've had never had any of my cymbals crack. My other cymbals are Zildjian A Customs. So far i have had the Wuhan China's for a few months now and no problems. Only real problem is that i get mad that i didn't know about these cymbals sooner lol. Buy these damn china cymbals!!! LoL Highly recommend them. ... show more

    • Very deep sound, no rivets as viewed in photos
The sound on this is very deep, much like a gong bell. Not quick and crisp like I had heard on YouTube. Also there are no rivets or rivet holes as advertised in the photos.
