  • The Best Cameo Album
I personally think that "Word Up" was Cameo's best album/tape/CD, and I'm glad to have it back in my music collection.

  • 'A Fantastic Yet Classic CD By Cameo!'
'Word Up!' is my all-time favorite song to dance and sing along to (I loved Larry's 'Oww!' and rapping in the song as well as the drums and keyboards); 'Candy' is another great song to sing along and dance to and I loved the drums, horns and guitars as well as the vocals by the band (the song has been sampled by singer Mariah Carey in her song 'Loverboy' as well as rappers Tupac Shakur and Will Smith); 'Back And Forth' is a lovely song and I loved the vocals as well as the guitars, keyboards as well as the firing of gunshots (this is the extended version of the song and it's my other favorite song); 'Don't Be Lonely' is a sad ballad and I loved the vocals by the band as well as the guitars, keyboards and saxophone; 'She's Mine' is a great song and I loved the horns, drums, guitars and vocals/good song to dance to; 'Fast, Fierce & Funny' is a good but 'scary' song about having little to no money (be careful with your money!); I liked the drums and keyboards as well as the female with an English accent talking about the stock market and a Jamaican man yelling about money and how he needs it to feed his family; 'You Can Have The World' is a great song with a Latin-flavored beat (I loved the keyboards, drums, and vocals by the band and the song has great yet inspiring lyrics about getting what you want in life but you have to work hard). This CD will always be my favorite with a lot of great songs to dance to! Today is singer/songwriter Larry Blackmon's birthday. ... show more

  • Finding 80's Music
I am finding music from the eighties I don't remember. We were an Air Force family and it seems we only listenend to Country music at the time. I'm an older gal and keep finding these older rock 'n roll tunes. This one made my day when it arrived; I must have played Word Up 4 or 5 times. I first heard it being sung by Sinbad on his comedy show, had to have it. ... show more

  • Great Nu Wave R&B album the begining of the end for this genre
I love this album and it comes when I think personally the tail end of the Nu Wave R& B genre (soon to be replaced by New Jack Swing and later Hip- Hop)with the smash crossover Word Up. This album is the final trio of great albums starting with 1984's "she's strange" and ending with this statement the last gasp of a great genre. Cameo was now pared down to a three piece group with other players from the cameo universe (Charlie Singleton, Bernard Wright and Aaron Mills)and It brims with the electro funker title track (with great horns ending the song)and the rocker " Candy" which is one of the great songs they have recorded. with it's searing guitar solo and the videos were even better with great visuals .And the ballads "Back and Forth" and "Don't Be Lonely' are excellent songs. while the album "single life" was in the middle of the "nu wave r&b craze this album completes it. If I was a "jheri curled nU Wave soilder" I would "run" not "walk" to the store and get this great album. ... show more

  • this is a great album
I'm a rock/metal guy. Kind of stumbled upon this by accident shortly after it came out and it grabbed me. I love this album. It still sounds fresh even 30 years (has it been that long?) later. 5 stars
