  • They sound great yet they're so simple
These chimalongs sound CLEAN! They're totally worth the money. They sound great yet they're so simple. The book that comes along if very helpful too. I like that it has the note on one side and the number on the other so you can switch them around depending on if you can read notes or not.

  • Great for a Young "Musician"
The Chimalong is melodious, no matter whether a three-year-old is banging on it or someone is trying to teach how to play it via the colors and numbers, as well as the names of the notes. It's great that the tubes do not fly off the rack when struck with force. The extra B-flat tube expands the range of tunes that can be played. ... show more

  • Fun
I got this for my wife and she really enjoyed it. So did her dad, who was a drummer in a high school band.

  • Nice gift
I bought this item as a gift for my nieces/nephews for Christmas and they loved it. The sound was good and the instructional book that came with the set have a good variety of songs for 2-7+ year olds to learn music. I think this is a great educational toy that can peak a child's interest into music. ... show more

  • Shoddy and Cheap Structure: Embarrasing Purchase for Christmas!
I am writing to share with you my disappointment with the Chimalong, made for children 3 years and older. I purchased the item on Amazon.com noting that Woodstock Chimes carry a fabulous reputation and that I, myself, own a set of long hanging outdoor chimes that I've enjoyed for years. I gave the Chimalong as a Christmas gift to my niece and was horrified when she opened it up! When received from Amazon, the structure that surrounds the xylophone chimes is hidden by the packaging. I assumed that it was of a good quality, sturdy and secure plastic, as it appears to be in the picture on the website. On the website, it appears to be an instrument of decent quality and at the cost of $30+, I was led to believe that I was buying something that would last for years! The flimsy grey foam that was revealed to "hold" the xylophone chimes in place is absolutely ridiculous! I was embarrassed that I'd even bought the item once it was opened to reveal this rather cheap and shoddy "structure" to the instrument. I am a musician myself and do understand that perhaps, the foam might provide some "nice" casing for the chimes and allow the sound to emanate, however, it is NOT going to last! It can be ripped and torn in an instant. I was shocked at the poor quality and shoddiness of the product and am very, very dissatisfied. To be embarrassed when you've paid good money for what should be a quality musical item better than a "Fisher Price" toy, and then find out that it is flimsy and cheap, well...it just isn't right. I suggest that Woodstock Percussion, Inc. take a long look at this product and make it more sturdy and in accordance with its price. It is something that should last a long while for a child as she or he grows to love music and the ability to create it. ... show more

  • Fun chimes, good sound
Fun, nice sounds. Bought this along with a bunch of other musical instruments for my 4 and 1/12 yr old they love this one, esp. the younger, he uses the mallet to bang away and likes that it has good sound, not a dinky little noise like the store bought toy ones. You could actually play a real song using this chime. ... show more

  • Great Sound. Needs Durability.
This toy is stinkin' expensive for what it is. But, the sound is great. I would actually call this a real musical instrument rather than a toy because of the beautiful tones it can produce. It comes with an extra tube that converts the scale to the Dorian mode, which is useful for some songs. The rubber mallets with plastic handles are excellent. However, tie the ends together with string and you get lethal nunchucks that the kids are all too pleased to whirl around. The biggest flaw are the two gray foam rails in which the metal tubes are inserted. Easily picked to shreds by any toddler's fingernail, you have to watch your kids like a hawk or they just won't last. Without the foam, you have no resonance, and thus, no instrument. That fact coupled with the lack of a hard case and you get a fragile toy that must be handled with care and stored out of reach when not in use. We use the box it came in as storage, but I foresee it falling apart soon. I bought this when my kids were 2 and 3. But I'm going to limit use until they are around 4 and 5 because the foam is so fragile. If they start pulling the tubes out and try to force them back in, then the foam will definitely become frayed or rip. ... show more
