  • Great read for a old school Sopranos fan!
Maybe I live under a rock, but I wasn’t aware of the podcast until I saw Michael and Steve on the Today show a while back promoting this book. I loved the show and miss it so much. Because I hadn’t tuned into the podcast the behind the scenes stories in this book were all new to me and I can’t express how much I enjoyed them! Especially those about the late James Gandolfini who I always loved to watch! I usually read a book and then pass it on to someone else but this is one of the few that will forever stay on my shelf! Thank you Steve and Michael for the trip down memory lane! ... show more

  • What a ride!
Absolutely loved this book! Got hooked on the podcast Talking Sopranos when it came out in '20 and rewatched the show Sunday nights then watched the podcast on Monday mornings on YouTube. Many of these stories were on the podcast but many not. Makes me want to rewatch the series again! I bought both the hard copy and Kindle version. Not sure if the Kindle version has all of the pictures because it was downloaded and not connected to wifi while reading. Hard copy is for that! Thoroughly enjoyed the stories and insights offered!! ... show more

  • A revealing look behind the scenes of the Sopranos...
There have been tons of Soprano 'gear' since the show ended in 2007 -- books, cookbooks, CDs, podcasts, even calendars and puzzles. But I've found nothing that encompasses the 'whole thing' like WOKE UP THIS MORNING. The revealing, poignant and sometimes hilarious memories of Sopranos' actors Michael Imperiole (Christopher), and Steve Schirripa (Bobby Baccalieri), are augmented by many hours of new interviews with Imperiole, Schirripa, Steve Van Zandt, David Chase, Lorraine Bracco and many others from the Sopranos set. Sharply assembled by long-time journalist Phil Lerman (of America's Most Wanted fame), the book is an unflinching look at the challenges of getting the show on TV in the first place, and how the actors reacted and grew with their roles. Most celebrity interviews usually devolve into he or she 'was a pleasure to work with' platitudes. Not so with WOKE UP, where tensions and laughter on the set share the pages with the ultimate triumph of a show that changed not only television but the creative talents involved. ... show more

  • Definitely for fans
Interesting behind the scenes of the inner workings of The Soprano's. I gave it 4 stars only because some of the actors have passed and without their input it feels incomplete. One part I will never forget is how you seperate a good actor from a great actor. A good actor plays The King, a great actor plays the man inside the King. 🤔 ... show more

  • Sopranos fans THIS IS THE BOOK
For all Sopranos fans and tv trivia/insiders alike , this is the holy grail for the show. Cant recommend any others after my first 10 minute glance through. This is the people who were there start to finish and no big egos sugar coating the actors. Steve is like the bad cop and Michael is the neutral cop if that was the scenario. No need to buy any other book on the show. Mostly the stories are quite hilarious in scenes you’d never guess. Highly recommended even if your a casual fan. It gives a great insider view of the film/tv business. The glossary and index are great for those who like read not in non linear fashion and curious on each episode. The writers make it easy and well written. Will leave fans surprised on how the actors compared to their characters contrast. Cant recommend it any more. ... show more

  • Fantastic book and a great read!
Wow, just received my copy of the book Woke Up This Morning, the Definitive History of The Sopranos. And it did not disappoint ! Amazing behind the scenes stories of how the show came into being and a lot of great juicy details. I learned a lot about the actors having been a huge fan of the show from the beginning. If you’ve ever wanted to look behind the curtain of how one of the most iconic shows in history was made this book is it! The back and forth banter between Steve Schirripa and Michael Imperoili is hilarious! Not to mention the beautiful the intimate behind the scenes photos which are great! I’d definitely recommend it and give it 5 Stars! I’ll be ordering additional copies as Christmas gifts to give out to my friends who are big fans of the show as well! ... show more

  • A fun read
Yeah, I've watched most every episode in order back when it was on its first run. This was a fun read. Goes pretty in depth by talking to such a diverse bunch, cast and crew. Including creator David Chase. I learned about the book from an interview with Michael Imperioli. A great book for Sopranos fans ... show more
