Description

The enhanced water colour, offering the widest choice of pigments and the high possible permanence. Since 1832 when Henry Newton and William Winsor introduced the first moist water colours to the world, much of our reputation for high quality has stemmed from the artist's water colour range. Since then artis'ts water colour continues to be formulated and manufactured according to founding principles, to create an unparalleled water colour range which offers artists the widest and balanced choice of pigments with the possible permanence. Each colour within this wide spectrum of 96 colours has been selected and formulated to offer the high choice so that artists can use a palette that suits their work. Both artist's water colour pan and tube colours are made individually to the higher standard. Pan colour is often used by beginners because it can be less inhibition and easier to control the strength of colour. Tube colour is popular overall and is ideal for those who use high volumes of colour or stringer washes of colours. Of course, artists can use both in any combination they choose. • Genuine Winsor & Newton PWC at a steal!
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
I’ve been looking to add this set to my collection for a while now, and given that it retails for $189 ($113 at Blick), I wasn’t in a hurry. I happened to see that this set was listed for $65 here but held off due to all of the reviews alleging that these were actually Cotman sets sold as Professional. One of the other sellers on Amazon was listing them for $80 and had 100% positive reviews, so I took the chance and ordered a set. I received a 24-half-pan set of Professional watercolors packaged in the original box and tin with the paper wrappings intact. All colors were as listed without substitutions; this set is exactly the same as the one sold on Blick. Each pan appears as a Professional pan should and the information printed on the side is accurate. I have no concerns that these are not Professional pans, but I have no doubt that there is or was a seller passing off Cotmans as Professional. As for the watercolors themselves, they are easy to activate, heavily pigmented, and appropriately lightfast. I wish Winsor & Newton would hand-pour their Professional half pans instead of extruding them, but it doesn’t affect the quality or experience too much as long as you are okay with the bricks wiggling around or falling out from time to time. The colors in this set are great for a serious beginner or a professional looking to consolidate (this is going to be my travel set since I don’t enjoy lugging around all 80 Schmincke half pans everywhere, as wonderful as they are). I chose to supplement this set with Chinese White, Winsor Blue (Red Shade), and Scarlet Lake to encompass the 3- and 6-color systems that Winsor & Newton outlines for their Professional watercolors. These fit nicely within the same tin and still allow room for a full-size brush. If these have been on your wish list, snag them while the price is this good—you can always return and report if you happen to receive a set of Cotmans. I’m thrilled that I took the risk! ... show more

  • Terrific paint, very cheap Tin
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
Love these professional grade paints. But…I had to return the first shipment I received because the tin was completely dented and banged up. The second tin is also messed up - does not close securely - but at that point, I wasn’t willing to face another delay. I was anxious to dig in and start using it, so I just kept it. I was pleased, however, that it contained all the colors mentioned on the Amazon page, unlike the experience of other users, who were disappointed to find the pigment colors swapped out. ... show more

  • Fabulous pigments, decent color selection
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
This is a set of 24 half pans of W/N professional watercolors in a black tin, sometimes marketed as a travel set. The pigments are just about as good as they get-transparent, rich and easily activated. Few tins include ideal color selections beyond the basic warm and cool hues. This one includes 7 neutrals, including both yellow ochre and raw Sienna, a sepia, and ivory. Highlights are Permanent Rose, Permanent Magenta, Winsor violet, Indanthrene blue and Hookers green. As with the Sienna and ochre, it is a bit redundant to include both Winsor blue and Cerulean, and a phtalo blue or green would have been more useful than olive, but its a lovely and versatile set at a fair price Also-there is nothing wrong with the tin. When you buy any brand of these sets, one has to arrange and secure the half-pans by pinching together the sides of the metal brackets to hold them securely in place. ... show more

  • Smooth and vivid
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
I was on the fence about ordering professional grade. I think it helps learning since the paint glides along.

  • These are lovely paints
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
I really like the paints. Getting tired of the pans however. There are a few colors that are tough to get much, time consuming. The product itself the transparency the true color, very nice. The metal box isn't as (for lack of a better word) stable or solid. It kind of rocks and is easily disturbed. The pans fit awkwardly. Sounds like a bad review but it is not. They were my first pro paint set. They were perfect in that and a wonderful gift. I would give it to a intermediate painter like myself The variety is perfect, and I really like that the names are printed on the side of each individual pan. ... show more

  • Nice selection of colors
Size: 24 Count (Pack of 1)
Winsor & Newton is my 2nd favorite watercolor brand. This is a bargain, but discovered that 6 colors were duplicates. The lid is curved so I cannot stack it with my other watercolor sets, but other than that, love the paint quality. WN Cotman is student grade.
