Remarkable tool. If you're like me, when I want to have a glass of wine, I want to have it now. Unless you are in to the screw-top lids or 'box wine'... (none for me, thank you) you are going to encounter the dreaded cork-removal phase of the experience. I have no desire to spend my evening battling a wine cork. This tool eliminates all guess work and hassle. It removes the cork with a minimum of fiddling about and even more importantly; it removes it all in one piece! A marvelous addition to the wine-drinker's pantry. To the reviewer that only gave this item 2 stars because it had a 'winery name embossed on it'... I don't know what yours reads, but mine sports the name of the manufacturer: Pulltaps. Which is as it should be. But for the record, it could have the words 'you're an idiot' embossed on it, and that still wouldn't cause me to deduct a single star from the review, because the product itself is VERY effective in removing the cork, which is what I bought it for! To those considering this purchase; you will not regret it. ... show more

There's a slight wiggle to the corkscrew, but it's nothing that makes me worry that it will break. This makes opening bottles a piece of cake and I notice waiters at many restaurants using the same wine opener. It takes up little space in the drawer compared to the "Precision Kitchenware - Luxury Corkscrew" that I also have and this is a lot quicker to use too. ... show more

  • Not bad for the price.
So far so good with this product. Although everyone says it's a fake thing, for the price it has pulled about 8 corks so far, and mine doesn't look like it'll break anytime soon. But i will post if it breaks pretty quickly. I like these all in one tools as it has a foil cutter as well. The cork screw is easy to get started in the cork and is easy to use. How to use these are easy, screw in the corkscrew till the edge of the bottle and the first segment where the hinge is about lined up, then the first segment rests on the edge of the bottle and you just pull up. Of course at the first segment, it only has enough leverage to pull the cork out halfway, then you readjust the stainless segment to the bottom and just pull up on the handle and the cork just comes out very smooth. These work great. I might buy more for the price, and they ship from china, so give it about a month. Not quite 5 stars because of the shipping time. Update: It's been about half a year now and many corks been pulled. I really like this 2 stage mechanism to pull corks, it's so smooth, i used to like those rabbit ear types, but now i'm a big fan of this older technology again. haven't had one broken cork with this yet, plus the foil knife is there which is great. Update2: Been over 1 year now, and must be close to 80 bottles opened and still doesn't seem like it'll break soon. Still my favorite opener. ... show more

  • Yes, it's a knock-off!
I'm pretty sure the product I received is not a true Pulltap's corkscrew so the headline there is misleading and outright false... But it works! For $2, this corkscrew does its job hence the 5 stars. My wine bottles are opened and I am happy, so I can't complain. I've had this corkscrew for a year now and it is still holding up. From the other reviews, it seem others weren't so fortunate so this may be a hit or miss product. My product was shipped from China by eFuture.SR. ... show more

  • open open open... good grief!
I bought this wine opener because it was from wine enthusiast and because the price was right. I work at a winery and wanted a two step opener for my pocket. The knife cut the foil okay, but when using the corkscrew to pull out the cork, the corkscrew and the pull were always misaligned, missing the top of the bottle neck for me to open the wine. Very frustrating. I had three other peers try it at the winery and they were like.. what kind of wine opener is this? I'm very disappointed in my purchase and glad it was only a few dollars. Maybe I got a bad one, but I wont try to buy again. I guess the old saying 'you get what you pay for' rings true for this product in my opinion. I didn't think you could make a bad wine opener until I tried this opener. The product came pretty quickly as the packaging said it came from China, but I tossed it in the garbage just as quickly. I'd spend a little more money for a better product. ... show more

  • Substantially different from my other Pulltap!
I have two corkscrews before me, and although the style is the same, both differ greatly, especially in quality. One is a true Pulltap brand corkscrew previously purchased from another vendor, and the other is this supposedly "Pulltap" corkscrew. Unless they've changed almost every aspect of the manufacturing process, this is not a genuine Pulltap. The genuine Pulltap screw has the logo stamped into the metal, which is bent squarely and solidly and with fair precision. On the recently purchsed one, there is no logo, and the sheet metal is lazily and ungracefully rounded. The genuine screw has more carefully finished bearing pins; the newer one has soft steel pins slammed in and the joints are stiff in some places and loose in others. The genuine features a main bearing with an even, flat contact surface -- one the newer one has the outer parts merely pressed inward. The newer corkscrew wobbles annoyingly. At first glance it's a fairly good copy, and even with its imprecision it's a far better screw than most. Even with all my concerns, it's by no means a disappointment, because the design makes up for the manufacturing foibles to some degree. But if you want the genuine article, you should absolutely have it. ... show more

  • What a steal!
I have used corkscrews with the two-arm levers before, but opted to get a waiter style one this time around and I am very glad I did. It's more stable, in my opinion, and the quality of this corkscrew is amazing for the price. I'm not a wine connoisseur or claim to be a corkscrew aficionado, but it does what it's made to do-- open wine bottles. It has weight in the palm of my hand, indicating durability and quality and it comes with a little de-foiling switchblade which is a nice touch. I'm sure there are some even nicer, high end models with a larger price tag, but this corkscrew does everything I need it to do and I doubt I'll be replacing any time soon. It will likely last me years and years to come. I highly recommend this item, especially if you are on a budget like I am. ... show more
