  • It took too long to unwrap
First of all the handlebars came in a box big enough to fit a teenager in. Then the bubble wrap had to literally be "SHAVED" away from the chrome. It was as if it was heat sealed over the entire thing and took me 40 minutes to scrape the plastic from the metal with as little scratching as possible. It was also hard to handle using awkward using a sharp knife while holding onto bubble wrap and skinny bars! It probably sat in a hot warehouse for who knows how long! ... show more

Worked well for me

  • Good product, packaging not so great.
Good handlebar. Like a lot of reviewers, I no longer find it comfortable to ride with a straight bar. And I'm 6'3" tall, so I have the seat really high, which makes the riding position even more uncomfortable with low handlebars. I had a handlebar with a 2.5" rise on a Trek 2700, but this one is a lot more comfortable. In case you need to know, the sweep back of the handlebar is about 3". I measured that by placing the handlebar on a table and measuring the height of the end of the bar. So on a bicycle, If you have the "U" part of the handlebar vertical, the tips will be about 3" closer to the rider than the center is. Be aware that you may have to replace your brake and shifter cables if your existing handlebar isn't the same rise. I was able to re-route two cables, had to replace one. I deducted one point (should have been half a point, but that's not an option) because the packaging wasn't very good. It was shipped in a priority box that was really just folded and mashed around the handlebar. Consequently, when it arrived, the box was torn almost completely across in two places and when I picked it up, the packing list just fell out on the ground. So it needs better packaging for shipping. The handlebar was undamaged, though (it's a hunk of chromed steel, after all). ... show more

  • Good value on a decent set of steel bars
These bars might just be the ticket to save your back. They have a nice high rise and aren't too heavy like many steel bars. The price is right compared to alloy high-dollar bars and they are also nice and stiff unlike many alloy bars which feel bendy to me. The only issue I have is that they are a bit wide for my tastes. If you don't live in the city and do a lot of commuting where you are passing cars stuck in traffic and riding between them then it isn't a problem. For me, with these bars at at 27", there are many gaps in the road you just CAN'T shoot. I cut almost 2" off of each end on my bars which was all that can possibly be taken off without putting the brake perches into the curvy part of the bar where they just can't grip or sit straight. It depends on how big your brake perches are (Mine are heavy-duty motorcycle MX-style DiaCompe lever perches that need a lot of room and the levers are full-sized MX-type that stick out more than many newer MTB brake levers). If you have integrated brake/shifters they might take up more room so that you can't cut more than an inch off of them. Just be aware of this. There are other bends that start earlier which might help to allow for more narrowness. ... show more

  • These bars making riding way more comfortable.
My Schwinn Pathway (standard big box store hybrid) had straight bars and a forward leaning riding position that was not comfortable. There is too much pressure on my sore tennis wrist and elbow. Also the weight on my shoulders and strain on the neck keeping my head up to see forward just didn't suit my needs. These bars serve the purpose of letting me sit more upright. I'm not straight up unless I use just the fingertips of one hand on the bar. With both hands on the grips I am leaning forward but at much less angle and it is more comfortable in every way. I use the bike for recreational purposes and may ride about 10 miles at a leisurely pace on any given outing. Mostly neighborhood stuff on city streets, in bike lanes, and up and down sidewalks as necessary to stay alive. The bars are not heavy and might flex in the hands of a crazy BMX or mountain bike rider but for the riding I described above they are fine. Nice chrome finish on mine and all the accessories fit the bars as they should. At $15 its a cheap improvement in comfort which translates into more frequent use and longer rides. ... show more

  • Bicycle replacement handlebar
I bought this handlebar to replace old one on my mountain bike as the riding posture was very uncomfortable me. The install was quick and easy and I'm now able to enjoy riding bike more upright. I took about 15 minutes to replace the old with new handlebar. The old brake and shifter cable were not long enough to reach new positions so I'm changing those out as soon as they arrive. These handlebar was not a next day delivery however they were a good value and well worth the wait. ... show more

  • These handlebars provide a more comfortable ride
The new handlebars are a great product. They increase the comfort when riding the bike. This is because the lower, straight, handles caused our hands to get numb after 30 minutes or more riding. They are easy to install for someone who is handy and has metric Hex tools.
