I got these to use as "legs" for an insert shelf on my bookshelf to half the height of the shelf for use to store CD jewel cases. So I didn't use these as bookends at all, but they were a good thickness of plate steel and weren't hard to cut or drill through to fine tune. These bookends are a very good value. They are reasonably sturdy and the non skid pads on the bottom worked very well. They are designed to have the base fitting under the books and they worked well in that capacity. I have some of these at the office and the business ones are much heavier and more sturdy. These are good, but they can't hold what the professional ones do - these can be bent with some heavy pressure. Good for books, but not for the heavier items I was keeping vertical.

These book ends are wonderful. I got them to hold a large amount of children's chapter books. And they hold perfectly. They do have rubber grips on the bottom to help hold it in place which is nice and they are surprisingly heavier then I thought they would be. Definitely would buy again
