I built a folding 7.5" blackout SBR on a Shield folding lower. It fits perfectly in the bag. I wanted something I could carry to Sunday Mass as an active shooter kit. The only complaint is the front pocket zips are tricky going around the corner. It obviously won't carry as good as a traditional backpack but the sling is stylish and quicker. I like it but admittedly I don’t know how to use it effectively and it is awkward given the big shoulder strap (still I love that I have it).

    • A large sling pack with trademark Vertx characteristics and quality

Vertx has been in the industry for a long time now. I remember when they had much fewer options and I started with their original Gamut (which I still have to this day and regularly use). Unlike other tactical brands which were blatantly obvious about their purpose, Vertx was the only way to go for a more discrete look without breaking the bank. But, even then, it wasn't perfect. Large logos and design lines still gave an off-feeling as it tried to be an everyday backup with hints of hiking features and hidden tactical features. Vertx has certainly come a long way with a lot more products since then, and this new commuter EDC tactical sling is an example of that. I want to start off by saying I'm not a big fan of slings. By design, they're unbalanced and place all of the weight on one side (which can cause posture problems down the road). But for a light everyday commute and ease of use, slings have their place. Vertx does a good job employing form, function, and comfort in this large and well-padded sling pack. At 22L, it is larger than my 21L backpack. It is less spacious in some regards (ex. main compartment isn't nearly as deep or cavernous), but it makes up for this with its characteristic Vertx functions (separate compartments/pockets, full velcro panels, hidden MOLLE panel, etc.). In order to maximize functionality, you need velcro accessories (which Vertx has a lot of). There is some built-in organization, which may be sufficient for a tactical loadout, but more is needed for everyday life/office use. In terms of outward appearance, this sling pack looks less conspicuous than my black/red Gamut and that's a big plus for me. My main gripe is how LOW the bag sits. Considering the type and weight of hardware this bag is marketed to contain, the higher the bag can sit the more comfortable it will be when moving around with it. As it is, its maximum height is much too low, and will swing around a lot. Yes, it includes a wrap-around strap and clip for that 3rd point of contact, but it's not enough. This issue is especially noticeable if you're shorter than 5'6" as the pack will just be a poor fit for you. At 5' 7" with the bag tightened up to as high as it can go, it covers from well below the base of my neck to right around my tailbone. If I were shorter, then this bag would start extending below my hips, which makes maneuvering and posturing really difficult. Should you get this pack? Well, I'd say start with figuring out your purpose of why you want this pack. It'll make a decent grab bag for a quick kit. It's great as a range bag. It works OK as an everyday sling bag. It is fairly comfortable with a beefy padded strap and an optional wrap-around strap for securing it, but best for short trips and light-medium loads as it sits way too low. If you're below 5' 6", I would not recommend this bag for you at all. Overall, it's a good bag, it's a Vertx bag, and it has a directed audience and design goal, but it's not perfect nor is it meant for everyone. ... show more
