  • Make sure you get the coffeemaker into descale mode
I used half the bag for one descale of a Keureg. Couldn't get the descale light to go off, just "brewing" with the solution in the tank. Then read the manual, and there is a model-specific button combination to get it into descale mode. Now, that works. A tank of this, then a tank of clear water, and all is well. Oh, watch the dust when you handle this stuff. It is irritating if you breathe it. ... show more

  • Dragged my Keurig from the Brink
I have a nearly 3 yr old Keurig Platinum (B70). In those years, I've had some of the usual problems, short cup, long cup, etc. Nothing too serious. But a few months ago, things took a turn for the worse. The short/long cup issue started occurring more regularly. Or, the machine would brew and nothing would come out. It was making all sorts of scary noises. Sometimes it would even get stuck in the brew cycle and I had to unplug to reset. Other times, it would shut itself off. I was in fear that my kitchen would catch fire. I couldn't get through an entire reservoir of water without some problem. Even though, it was out of warranty, I contacted Keurig support for suggestions before I tossed it away. I found out that I had been descaling with vinegar incorrectly. (I didn't let it sit for a full 4 hours). Okay, I did this. It took a while to do because even during this process because the brew/auto shut off was happening. (In the meantime, I had ordered a new machine and a packet of Dezcal.) After the vinegar descaling, the machine worked better, though the noises were slightly quieter they were still there. However, after a few days, all the problems returned. But by then the Dezcal had arrived. Although, I had known about Dezcal from when I first purchased the machine, I was hesitant to use it because it was a chemical compound and in reading the reviews I saw that some users said it destroyed their machines, but I figured what the heck, it was going in the garbage anyway. All right, I used the Dezcal. (3 ozs of powder split over 2 reservoirs of water. Dissolve before putting in reservoir. Run through one reservoir, wait about 30 mins, run through second. Clean reservoir. Then rinse with 4-5 reservoirs of clean water.) Between the first and second reservoirs of cleaning solution, the "descale" sign came on. In the three years I've owned the machine, I've only seen it twice. So I figured "uh oh". Anyway, I kept going. The sign was gone by second run through of plain water. Reservoirs were emptying without a problem. Long story short, my Keurig is back to purring like day one. No more funny noises. Brewing cycle is no longer getting hung up. My big problem now is I have two machines. I could send it back, but I'll hang onto for the day my original machine does truly die. (I know it's going to happen sooner or later. But thanks to Dezcal, it looks like it will be later). ... show more

  • Worked great on my Rheem Tankless Water Heater
I previously used vinegar to flush my tankless water heater. I will never use vinegar again after finding this descaler. I always thought vinegar did the trick. It was not till I used the Dezcal that I learned the vinegar did nothing in removing my limescale. I added 1 packet of Dezcal to each gallon of water used. FYI, this stuff is mostly Citric Acid, so you will find it to be safe and non-toxic ... show more

  • Used to clean our tankless water heater
We used this to clean our tankless water heater. This product cleaned really well, as there was sediment residue after cleaning and the tankless heater is only one year old. I highly recommend this product.

  • Good Product
Arrived fast and packed well. First time using Dezcal I've always used a weak vinegar and citric acid solution I made up. Thought I would try a commercial product this time. I mixed it at about 1.5 tablespoons per quart of water. Pack should be good for four cleanings or so. This seemed to work great following directions. Following directions, I cleaned and descaled two espresso machines. First I mixed the solution then pumped into the machine enough solution that I could tell it filled the boiler. Then I let it sit for half an hour. You could see the lime deposits flushed out as I pumped out the Dezcal after the half an hour. You must flush out the Dezcal several times with clear water because it tastes terrible. My machines are both over 8 years old but I do maintain them by using only filtered water and descaling every 6 months or so. This keeps them running fine and coffee tasting good. ... show more

  • Works somewhat.
this product does work don't get me wrong but white distilled vinegar works much better. With the white vinegar let it sit about an hour before rinsing throughly. This is Citric acid in a granular form and like I said, it does work and requires less rinsing than white vinegar. Hope this helps.

  • Always works, cleans anything
I have used this in both commercial & residential applications. First purchased it years ago to clean the urns & brewers at our shop. Snuck some home & went at it again. This will remove ANYthing that decides to take haven in your previous brew devices. Back to sparkling new again.

  • Great but beware it tarnishes polished Stainless Steel
Great product and cheaper than individual packages. Use 1/4 package for 1 quart of water (instructions say to use full package for 1 gallon). Beware the acid in the solution may permanently tarnish mirror polished stainless steel surfaces such as spoons or the outside of a milk frothing pitcher! I suggest mixing the powder into warm water by using a plastic spoon and avoid using a polished stainless steel frothing pitcher when purging the solution from the espresso machine. ... show more

  • Does an excellent job descaling!
Using this product along with a separate cleaning using diluted vinegar keeps my Keurig machine clean as a whistle and in good working order. I would recommend it to others! The only thing I believe they could improve is the package itself. Would be nicer if it was a resealabe...

  • Dezcal does.
Used in the refurbishing of an espresso machine. I'd argue that I used far too much and screwed up the machine a little more, but lesson learned. It cleaned well. I think it's a great product if you use it correctly for your application. That of course, is up to proper research.

  • works but try citric acid first
I suspect this is mostly citric acid. You can buy 5 lbs of food-grade citric acid for $25. Citric acid is also useful for cleaning your dishwasher, clothes washer, or rusty tools (not to speak of its intended cooking uses). Try that first.

  • Works great.... improves coffee maker performance
I use this to descale my Technivorm Moccamaster coffee maker. We have filtered city water that contains lots of mineral. Using this approx every 2 months keeps the machine running smooth and the brewing times quick. Hot water is key to great coffee, so performing routine descaling to prevent mineral build-up that decreases heating process is key to good brewing results. ... show more
