This is a good binder and it includes two separate "hernia" pads that can be attached anywhere on the binder. In other words you can customize where you place the pad. These pads assist in keeping your hernia "inside" where it belongs. Helpful for an umbilical or other abdominal hernia. Believe me, I know because I've had six abdominal hernias in my lifetime! The hernia pads are of different thickness depending on the added support you need. I got the L/XL size which is 43" long. I have a similar binder from another manufacturer that is also sold as XL which is 48" long. So there is no standard for this kind of product. This binder, like the other I have, is about 6" wide which I would say is typical for these kind of binders. Nevertheless, a "standard" hospital binder is usually nine inches wide. Binders, like the one sold here, are made with material which is more breathable (good!) than a hospital binder. This may be because hospital binders aren't designed to be used "permanently." But, like my surgeon said to me a year after my last hernia procedure, "You may want to wear the binder whenever you are doing activities like yard work or mowing the lawn. I have a stomach hernia that my doctor doesn't want to operate on just yet so I have been using a belt very similar to this one but is too large in length and moves around so when I saw this Pauline hernia belt I had to try it and glad I ordered because it fits tighter and feels so much securer since it is the right size for me after losing weight and doesn't move around like my old one. You also get two extra hernia pads for even extra compression if needed. The Velcro straps also really hold it very well in place as mentioned and the support bars in the back part are flexible and seem to me to be more for keeping it from trying to roll up and work very well to keep the band straight at all times. ... show more

While my umbilical hernia isn’t painful, I am concerned about stressing it when working making things worse. This belt is comfortable and even offers a level of back support giving me the confidence and support to work and carry heavy objects with less concern about aggravating the hernia. Stretches and easily secures with vp o slipping Velcro and the support pads stay in place. I am using the softer silicone as I have a small hernia that rarely pushes out. I had been using a regular back support brace but this is a much better solution, is more comfortable and less bulky. ... show more

The belt gives good support in the umbilical region. I like the two changeable compression pads. One is firmer for more targeted support, the other is larger, flatter, and offers support over a larger area. This is a benefit to allow for the support level you need on any given day. The other nice feature is the horizontal Velcro straps. Most belts I've used have a vertical strap, which holds well but leaves a larger flap that's not held down, which is harder to conceal under clothing. The horizontal straps attach over a wider area and keep the entire belt flatter against your body. The belt is comfortable and well made and I'm extremely happy with it's performance. ... show more
