  • Great kit for fixing drafts
Color: Brown Style: Single
I read a lot of reviews about this product before placing an order (too many reviews than I'd care to admit), and I hope this review will clear-up a few things. Many people say that this draft guard isn't perfect for their needs. Of course it isn't. There is no product that's going to work for every possible thickness of door, every possible door width, every possible floor texture, and every possible gap between door and floor. This is a KIT and it's a GREAT little kit. If you're looking for something that will keep drafts out, that doesn't require a permanent install with screws or glue, and if you're willing to cut (and possibly sew a little), this kit is an excellent solution. A number of reviews say this kit comes with Styrofoam. It doesn't. It's more of an EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam. Styrofoam is very rigid, dents, crumbles, and breaks or snaps when under stress. The EPP foam in this draft guard is better than Styrofoam and has rigidity, but some flexibility and will rebound rather than break. This product uses good quality foam. I recognized the EPP foam when I opened the kit from my R/C glider days. The stuff is durable and still light. This kit is pretty simple to assemble and you can get as basic or as fancy as you like. You cut the foam to the lengths needed for your door and you couple two rollers together per side to make two longer rollers. It's done this way probably for shipping (you get a total of four short rolls to make two long rolls using rigid plastic couplings). Once the rollers are slid into the brown cloth sleeves, you wrap one end of the cloth over and it stays put with Velcro. You then slide the whole guard under your door and viola. It moves back and forth with the door. If you want to get fancy or if you have a thin door or you're worried the guard will slide out, you can do things like sew the cloth a bit tighter, pin the guard to the bottom of the door with thumbtacks, etc. But I didn't need to do that with mine. As best I can tell, this guard is going to work great on all surfaces except shag rugs (which might have too much friction). Tile, linoleum, wood floors, laminates, and carpet all seem like they'd be fine. It slides easiest obviously on smooth surfaces, but even on carpet it works great (I tested it). The last thing I'll say is that I've been using a bean-bag type snake draft guard for a few years and I've become very tired of moving it manually back and forth at night. I like this new draft guard so much that after I got my first one, I placed an order for two more. I think this thing is great. I'm currently using one at the office for auditory privacy, but I'm going to get two more for home use to stop drafts. ... show more

  • EASY TO INSTALL & ADJUST
We have three exit/entance doors in our house. This is the second time that I have purchsed these Twin Draft Guards. While the original ones were still working after being in use for over four years, they were beginning to look a little shabby. The fabric on these can be removed and washed, which I did several times and they came out very well; no shrinkage in the material. But finally we decided it was time to replace them, but with the same Draft Guard. They are not fancy or beautiful, but they work to keep the cold air out and the warm air in; that's what we wanted and paid for. ... show more

  • Functions well, but required stitching to secure at the length of my door.
Color: Brown Style: Single
I purchased this draft guard hoping it would do two things: 1) block the space under my dining room door so odors do not pass to the rest of the apartment; and 2) keep the door from being blown open by the draft caused by the open window. It seems to function fine for my first concern, but is much too lightweight to act as a “door stopper.” Now, the reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 has nothing to do with the functionality, as I was hoping for more than it advertised. I docked a star because of a snag in the installation of the product. It arrives in a box with the long, fabric cover that has two openings for the foam tubes (think pool noodles) to be inserted. The tubes themselves come in four pieces, with an attachment on two to hold the other two in place. You’re supposed to cut down two of the pieces and attach them to the others so that the total length is about the width of the bottom of the door/window you wish to enclose, for me, 30 inches. You then insert the tubes into the fabric liner, and fold the top over the rest of it to secure with a Velcro strip. Here’s where I ran into difficulty — at 30 inches, the Velcro hook strip passed the bottom, fixed section of loops, this rendering it ineffective at holding the entire product together. I considered cutting it down, but did not want to alter the construction of the item, so I was able to remedy the problem by folding the top part over and back again (accordion-style), and sewing a few stitches at each corner, and a few in the middle, to tack the length of the fabric flap down shorter, allowing the Velcro to fasten. The only issues with this simple fix are that I would need to cut the stitches to adjust the length in any way, and there’s now a thicker flap on one side that had to be shoved under the door. It was not a problem for my decent-sized gap, but if you’re trying to block a smaller space, the extra thickness may be an issue in terms of fit. Going back to #2 of what I had hoped this draft guard would do for me, I am planning on placing a small, strong magnet all the way down inside the end of the fabric liner, and install a second one where it hits on the doorframe in the hopes that the magnets will be able to hold the door from blowing open from the draft. The door has issues latching properly; so, rather than having the hardware replaced all together, I will try using the magnets to help keep it closed. ... show more

  • Not as described
Color: Brown Style: Single
Can’t close Door and my apartment door is standard. Even fabric is not as described. Too short yet too much material that gaps and prevents door from closing no matter what one does. I got a different version as a gift long ago I tried replacing no longer on here. This is useless. Shameful.
