  • Fun project if you are naturally detailed and exceedingly patient.
Style: Forest Times
This was my first time doing a miniature project and I am very pleased with the results. I remember thinking when I first opened the package "wow, that's a lot smaller than I thought." I've since learned that you have to pay attention to SCALE, and being a 1:24 scale, this is smaller than the 1:12 scale found on most children's dollhouses. But this isn't really a children's dollhouse, this is a fun, puzzle-like challenge for anyone that has lots of free time on their hands. I'll admit, there were times when I felt a bit overwhelmed at the task, like making the tiny books, but I just kept plugging away at it. I found that for the most part the directions were easy enough to follow, although you have to apply common sense to some things. For example, the pillows they instruct you to glue, but after that didn't seem to work at all, even using fabric glue, I resorted to needle and thread which is what I should have used from the beginning because the glue I used showed through the fabric. I also totally missed the part about the clear acrylic piece being used to create the mesh basket, so I eliminated the basket altogether. Also I went ahead and glued all the furniture items at the beginning so I didn't risk losing any of the wood pieces. I worked on the project over a period of 8 weeks, and kept everything on a large tray so I could move it out of sight when I was working on it. I personalized it by changing up a few things, like the blue wallpaper which I changed to a red paper I had on hand to give it more contrast. I also changed the plants the little dog is watering as I didn't like how the taller plants blocked seeing the dog. If I had to do it over again I would have used a different glue on the flooring since the glossy paper they provide is non-porous causing it to buckle a bit. Luckily most of that is covered by the area rug. I also would have glued the chandelier before completing the house and the manner in which they have you wire the wall sconce could be improved. As a completed project it is super cute and the lighting feature makes it even more endearing as a night light. I also purchased the Christmas version which I look forward to completing for the holidays. I wish they made more versions in this series where it is a self-contained room with a roof. ... show more

  • Love DIY Miniature Houses!
Style: Happy Times
I built a Miniature House last year and I got so much satisfaction and pleasure from it! Compliments galore. It is NOT a quick craft. And you don’t want it to be. I have now bought 14 more to give as gifts. They come with everything you need to decorate it with. Most fabrics are pre-cut. There are different levels/skills. So choose wisely for the youngest builders. ... show more

  • Not my favorite but still very charming
Style: Forest Times
Overall I enjoyed this, though I'm not as happy with it as some others I have done. Instructions were fine, electrical parts were easy to do, I did not have to contact customer service about anything, I had no missing pieces, and it is very charming when it is done. I think the only parts I had that were possibly warped were the two roof pieces, which was mostly okay but did add a little bit in my difficulty in getting the roof on straight (more on that later). Because the electricity is so easy (there is no constructing of the bulbs individually and wiring all of those, for this one it is just twisting appropriate wires together), the instructions are decent, and the room is relatively small, this could be a great kit for a beginner who is interested in trying miniatures but has no previous experience. However, this kit comes with NO TOOLS, not even glue or tweezers (this is my second kit that has had neither of these, though two kits I have done did have glue and tweezers). I was glad I had already done several kits because I basically at this point have every tool I might ever need to do these kits, but it could be a surprise for some to not even have glue included. Mostly this was fine to put together and not much more fiddly than other kits I've done (this is my fourth), but I did struggle with two areas pretty mightily: 1) I could not get the roof to be attached very well. I think partly this was because the roof pieces were warped, but partly it is not the kit's fault as I am learning with each one of these I do that the more a kit like this resembles a box shape, the harder it is to get things quite square and sitting correctly on all the parts. As you can see in the pics, my roof once it dried with the lamp in place and the two pieces together, I could not get it to sit flush with the top of the room (nor could I figure out how to glue things together all at once to make sure they sat flush because I do not have six hands to hold everything while it sets). 2) The wall lamp was suuuper fiddly to make OMG. I think I had to make it three times before I finally got it--not because it was hard to do but because it was kind of fragile once it was made so manipulating the way I needed to to get the bulb in was difficult without it falling apart. But, I finally got there. The overhead lamp was pretty easy to make actually (much easier than a previous chandelier lamp I made), except for gluing on the little flower thing. That just did not work for me at all, so I abandoned it and used a leftover shade I had from a different kit. And, gluing the lamp onto the ceiling was kind of difficult and persnickety. I wasn't sure I would actually get it to stay because I wasn't sure the glue would hold it up due to the weight of the lamp, but I got there in the end. And I will never, ever touch it again, even to adjust the arms which are wonky, LOL. I am afraid to ruin the magic of whatever is holding it together. ... show more

  • Expect missing parts
Style: Happy Times
Overall it was OK. Super fun, it’s my first doll house I ever built. I kinda did my own thing with certain decorations. The foliage shed ALOT. I was missing the bottom plate of the hutch/cabinet so used the table top instead and made my own table with popsicle sticks. Also, after I had finished the couch I hated it, I made my own couch with foam with the provided fabric stencil to measure. The couch I made ended up being too big to fit the corner table with the lamp so I made a floor lamp. Some pieces are sooo tiny like the roses (repurposed with post-it note papers) and the gold fixtures you had to cut into 7ths (for knobs on the cabinet) were a pain in the booty. Curtains are tacky so I made some “bamboo” inspired ones with left over wrinkle paper. But I still finished it, not completely satisfied but it did what it was supposed to!!
