The skates appear to have come sharpened, which is a reasonable expectation. The leather on the boot seems VERY durable, but that's also to it's detriment. I think I might have to break out the heat gun to mold this leather a little bit, cause these things are EXTREMELY stiff. Other than that, they look well-made. I'm still skating on my CCM tacks from 1995, but these look like they'll do the job. Not too sure about the comfort level, I don't have high expectations here given the price point and stiffness. But, they seem serviceable. Would definitely recommend to add to your collection for hitting the rink a few times a year to play/pond hockey. ... show more

Got these for my 9yo daughter and they are just what we need. She's not heavily into hockey but plans to take skating lessons and skate on the ponds near home. I don't really see any downsides to these. They are the same price as a used pair from a resale shop but brand new and good quality.

This is the 1st pair of ice skates I have purchased since my son is just getting into ice hockey. So far so good. Definitely a great deal if you are unsure if this is something you or your child will be into for a long while.

These are a really well made and, for the price, surprisingly comfortable set up ice skates, at least after a few sessions breaking them in. They're a little spartan compared to 'fancier' ice skates, but I was looking for a pair of skates that were rugged and durable and made to take some wear and tear. They look sharp, have some good quality blades, and fit true to size (be aware of the funky size system -- make sure to refer to the conversion chart in the product images). ... show more

    • Uncomfortable instep

I got the size 4 since I am female and wear regular size 6.5 shoe. The hockey skate has the cover attached to the blade on arrival. I used a scissors to cut the zip tie off. It is not too hard to put the shoe on and tie it. However, the instep feels uncomfortable. I can hardly skate half hour with it. The shoe lace keep getting untie. I tied the laces at least three times within that half hour. The blade does slide well on ice. The overall quality of the shoes is ok, but it is not something for me to use permanently since it is uncomfortable. ... show more

Sure, they don't have the cushy lining or foot-conforming gel inners that skates costing three times as much sometimes do, but these skates fit me so well that I can't wait for the pond to freeze over. Like my old hockey skates, they are sturdy and the lower foot portion is reinforced by hard plastic to cushion the blow from a puck if that's how I end up using them. ... show more

The skates are a little stiff it's going to take a while for them to break in. Unlike my last pair which were made in the 70s real leather. But they look very well constructed. I need to go get them sharpened and rockered. And then I will use them. The fit is okay
